🏈 Has Gus Malzahn been fired yet? Official web site link (Stories are coming out about the validity of him being fired.)

Logic tells us Gus really wants one more year to prove he is the real deal otherwise he would allow them to fire him today. I assume he will agree to a 16-18 million buyout for one more year (in addition to the 7 million salary he will be paid) thus 22-24 million is pretty dayum great.

Until we have an actual set of details on the changes, I almost have to assume that there is a lot more to this "reduced" buyout. Maybe he feels he has to coach at Auburn another year for some other reason (either to position himself for another job or for some other unknown reason). Or maybe he is reducing the initial buyout amount in exchange for a larger yearly payment going forward but a smaller overall payout. I am trying to come up with any reason he wouldn't just dare them to fire him.

You're saying he's gambling $8M on next season? I have no idea what he's doing, but if he's doing that, he's one of the bigger idiots in all of sports.
 
Gus Malzahn to accept reduced buyout to remain at Auburn

AUBURN, AL (WBRC) - Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn has agreed in principle to accept a reduced contract buyout to remain at the university. WBRC FOX6 Sports has confirmed an initial report from Auburn Undercover that Malzahn will see his $32 million buyout reduced by an unspecified amount. A source close to Auburn University also tells WBRC that Malzahn has agreed that Auburn will effectively end paying buyouts for assistant coaches, thus forcing Malzahn to pay buyouts himself for any assistant coach that he seeks to dismiss.

After beating Georgia and Alabama in back-to-back weeks in 2017, Malzahn was awarded a 7-year, $49 million contract. Since then, the Tigers have gone 7-7 with a record of 4-7 against Power-5 teams.

According to Auburn Undercover, Malzahn met with school president Steven Leath on Sunday to discuss the coach’s contract status. There remains no official word on when this agreement will be finalized.

The supposed details are from what I heard on the news last night, he can’t fire Chip Lindsey, the staff won’t have buyouts, and Gus’ buyout is reduced.

Gus is an egomaniac that truly believes he can right the ship while continuing to micromanage things. He is a lame duck staring 5-7 or 6-6 dead in the face. Oregon to open, @LSwho, @UF, @A&M, UGA, and BAMA to close. None of those teams have the issues that the Barn has!!

I think he believes one year with Kelly Bryant at QB will save him, or will find him a great landing spot elsewhere. With all the turmoil, I think Bryant ends up some place with a reputation for developing QBs, like Mizzou.
 
As always the following is my opinion only.

The only way the reduced buyout and other concessions make sense was if there is a reason right now today that they could have fired him and A. reduced the buyout contractually or B. Hurt his rep so he couldn't get another P5 HC gig. Convince me I am wrong.

No doubt there is a thing or two regarding his contract OR other incidents that aren't public knowledge at this point. Until the AU President or AD makes ANOTHER statement about Gus then it's still unclear. The 1st statements by both were negated by the "it's Stoops man" rumor that was published by the UnOfficial barn complex media members.
 
The staff won't have buyouts and Gus' buyout is reduced? How do they break a contract? Who lets them change a contract? Why do they have a contract if the contract can be changed? There's a whole lot going on that hasn't been released.
