campus? its like a nazi camp. this guy on a golf cart came to our spot today and told me i was in violation of a noice ordinance, an open container law, and get this...my honda generator was against the law. he says the generator has to have a muffler that the exhaust and escape upward not outward to be "legal". its a brand new eu2000 honda. of course i laughed at him and told him to bring on the po po and he didnt like that too much. i did turn my speakers away from the roadside but geez these people are killing tailgating up there. its not just our group so i know they didnt single us out. they actually shut down the entire block across from moore hall. no one even set up there its just wild. we as a public keep that place ticking and they S#%T on us in return.

They dont enforce the open container law (props to the TPD and Uni for that)

Evreything else has gotten really hard in getting to the games.

Parking is AWFUL
consession prices are through the roof.

At the 3 gates nearest my seats yesterday......each gate had only 1 freaking ticket taker  (the first time this year thats happened thankfully)

The Uni is really making you jump through hoops to have a good time as opposed to just a couple of years back though

It is such a fine line IMO with them keeping things "family friendly" and then having idiots with an ounce of power trying to wield it to anybody they think they can intimidate. With the money making regime of Gene Hallman and UAGameday I think they should make a label for "family friendly" tailgating areas where families can have it more child oriented and then have your other areas so that you don't have a ton of rent-a-cops acting like they have some authority.

No need IMO to squelch all the fun.

I don't really mind, but "security" outside the stadium never checks my bags. Yesterday I got a smile and a "go on in m'am, you're good". I had 3 bags, and not one was checked.

I could really take advantage of that, but I don't. The one time I load up would be the one time they check me.

Man, from what I could tell, they don't give a hoot about open container. There were people with can beers in front of the stadium during the Walk of Champions.
My $350 dollar check to the city begs to differ. It was also in a plastic cup and I was five feet off of private property. Bastard covered bastards with bastard filling.

Just depends on the cop. We've had the same TG spot for 7 years(right next to the gas station by JDs) and have never had a problem. In fact, the first time anybody has ever said anything to us was the KU game when a buddy of mine was walking to the stadium with a Bud in his hand. Law just made him pour it out. We were polite about it. I think they don't mind as long as you're not making a bunch of racket or acting like a total redneck drunk. They know everybody is gonna party. There is way too many tax $ to throw everyody in jail who's drinking in public

I so want to say something and I know I could get away with saying it to you BD and you find it funny, but it is not really appropriate for the forum.

Your right. At the Kentucky game I had on a pair of shorts with cargo pockets on them and the "security" guy said you got anything in your pocket? To which I replied yeah keys and a Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. I thought he was about to grab my pockets....I made up my mind that he would have had a broken nose had he touched me.

I've never had an issue with open container. I've walked around with solo cups, huge plastic mugs, bottled beer in a koozie, you name it. All in front of cops, fire fighters, medics, etc. As long as you're not acting retarded and drunk off your butt, then you should be fine. The people I see getting busted or in trouble are the ones being rowdy and making fools of themselves and the University bad.

Don't get me started on the consession prices though

Our gates were making people empty the contents of their pockets Sat(and purse checks). Prior to Sat it was the smile BD was talking about

I just assumed that securtiy was upgraded at each gate this week for some reason and thus why we had only one ticket taker

for the record "sir, I need you to empty the contents of your pockets for me"..... pull out cell phone and car keys...."ok the other side please"...... money clip
"thank you and enjoy the game" (I had 5 Jack shooters in my pocket)

That's weird. We sat on the visitor's side and I walked right through the gate without even a bat of an eyelid. If I had know it was gonna be like that, I woulda stuffed a flask in my pocket or something.

Of course, if I had done that, I would've gone in a gate where there were Gestapo and been arrested immediately never to return to free life.

We keep our beer in cups out of respect for children only. I think the police and security do an extraordinary job in the way they run campus on gameday. It's always easy from finding parking to tailgating to going to the concession stands.
;tr

I don't have too much of a problem with the parking and all that stuff... I understand the reasons for it. I will say that the rent-a-cops and parking lot attendants are idiots. The ones whom I've come in contact with (specifically on A-Day) have had no clue as to what the policies are that they are supposed to be enforcing... such as blocking off streets and parking lots that were supposed to be open. The good news is, they don't have real badges or guns so you can go around them.

well since i started this i think i should at least

leave one last thought. it is a football game. if they, whoever it may be (elderly, priest, president, pope, children) can accept that people will be consuming alcohol then they need to stay home. that is not meant to be as rude as it may sound. mind you when typing without a journalism degree thats just how it sounds. the university should take the fans side on this one and tell the police or rent a cops to chill on the open container policy across the board. i completely understand that this may be isolated and not turn into a big deal, but it was the first time in my life, and i have been going up there for ab 15 years now on my own, that this has been an issue. the entire atomosphere is kinda slowly turning into a vandy type thing. i dont know how many noticed but across the street from moore hall there are no tailgaters now. my friend told me that the police came in there because of the music noise and told them that "we have enough handcuffs to lock everyone on the block up if we have to." isnt this a tad bit crazy? it is what...8 days a year that they will have to put up with us? they need to nip this in the bud before it escalates.

I think you're making a huge deal out of nothing. I have seen no open container strictness when I've been on the quad. In fact, I would ALMOST say that they aren't strict enough. I've seen people act like total idiots in front of little kids.
