| NEWS Has Alabama been dethroned as college football's top program? - Rivals.com

The complete domination in last year's title game is enough for me to agree.

By score anyway
I have to agree with @50+yeartidefan here, jd. The scoreboard definitely showed a dominating win, the game within itself didn't. We witnessed a clavacade of unfortunate circumstances. Still a loss though, right?

What strikes me about this notion of Clemson now being the overall top program is what has happened since that date in January. But, I won't start there.

There's no doubt Clemson is getting the best out of their players/recruits. However, there's also no doubt that Bama has been getting higher quality players, and has more depth, than Clemson.

Now, we're a few months away from that January evening and what's happened since then? Is Dabo a better coach than Saban now? No one is going to stand behind that statement sans a few uninformed fans. Does Clemson now have more talent than Bama?

Goodman shows how misinformed he is with his piece here. (That shouldn't come as a shock considering his resume that includes articles suggesting Bama fans would rather have Dabo than Saban, the Sexton year at Bama was bad for basketball in Tuscaloosa as was Colin's contributions, and now this.)

How is he misinformed? I'l cite one example supporting the earlier statements on depth.

Let's not forget this past February when Bama signed the #1 class (247 rankings) that included
3 Five Stars
23 4 Stars
1 three Star.

At the same time we have Clemson signing ...
1 Five Star
12 Four Stars
15 Three Stars.

**Now I'm seeing people freak out about the current class Clemson has committed...with signing day seven months away.

We'll see how the season plays out. People can say what they want to, there are plenty of people who wish there would be a change at the top. Let's see how Clemson fairs after losing the DL to the NFL. We do it on a regular basis and are still in the hunt each year. I don't care what they are saying right now.... it's pre-season. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!

Last years Bama defense did not measure up in my view and the statistical view (I know we can slice and dice yardage after we had large leads but does not change things in my mind).

Anything close to what we are used to and the game is different. Heck if the offense does similar to what it had been doing same thing. My perception - 3rd down in the red zone was what made it look much different than what it was and the D not playing up to par.

I doubt we will see two down years in a row on D.

It's amazing how little people recognize the way the CFP unfolded. Clemson deserves credit and they beat us thoroughly, but I really do believe that had they played OK in the first round and we played ND, we end up with another natty.

Having said that, I also think the way it did turn out will ultimately end up being a huge motivator for the players on this roster.

Some day, the Saban dynasty will fizzle out, but that is not this day.

The performance of the Bama defense in the 2nd half of the OU game was pathetic. If not for #13 and the offense answering after each OU score then we never make the Clemson game. The Bama vs New-Braska game of 71 is the last time I recall another team just beating the shite out of The King ( in a really big game)from kickoff to the final horn.

I believe Nick has addressed his concerns on defense with the changes in staff. A little humility was in order and boy did we get a huge serving.

Roll Tide
