A day later and I'm still shaking my head.

He just signed a seven year contract extension for 49 million dollars and he's in the first year of that contract. But, the AD felt the need to say "he'll be back." Better than "will you be back?" Maybe?

The problem here in assuming just because he's in the first year of his contract extension they won't fire him goes against what they've done in the past. Both Tubs and Chiz were at the beginning of their extension and "released."

I've basically just answered my own question--despite it being a little rhetorical in the first place.

He felt the need to announce this because the last two coaches they signed extensions with were gone within a year.

Bank on it. There will be no coming back from that. Not over there. They could lose 30-0 to Liberty but have a decent showing against Alabama and all will be forgiven, but get blown out by Bama and he is done.

I literally spit my drink on the screen when I read this headline yesterday. They are taking a hit in the fund raising department when it comes to upgrading that dump of a stadium and this won't help. I think the campaign kicked off about the same time the clock hit zero on the IB and the ink dried on Gus' extension. He is a mediocre coach, 8-9 win coach at best, with the occasional horseshoe in his ass season! I said that before the season that they would struggle, not because of a tough schedule, but because their lack of depth and development in their OL, a non run threat at QB, and no bell cow RB to tote the rock 30-35 times. They deserve each other!!!

It's hard to see the difference between Gus and the barners and Ed O and the tigers. Elite defenses, excellent talent, and a struggling offense. These universities are making the dough but no one can hand out a 49 million dollars contract and just eat it. Ed O got a huge contract when it wasn't necessary and Gus actually outdid even the Redbull king. As long as Aranda and Steele are signed up they may make the situation tolerable, but neither will see the promised land.
