šŸˆ Greg McElroy: "When Coach Saban is ready to name a starter, he'll name a starter."

Have been a fan of McElroy's since we signed him. To start just one year of high school ball, lead your team to the 5A state championship, and be named the 5A Offensive Player of the Year says much about the kid's talent, desire, and heart.

Not that I did not like JPW, but I am ready for a qb that does not just manage the game but takes control of it when needed. Think Greg might be that guy.

I think that at best G Mac will be another JPW. I hope I am wrong and that he can make plays. Don't forget, his Soph year JPW was brilliant.

I will stay on the optimistic side. JPW was never in a stable offense scheme. Also he did not stand on the sidelines a year soaking in an offense that should be around awhile. I am not really one to look at the past(especially someones else's actions) to determine someones future on the field. I am happy with managers but want a take control guy also. Gmac will have more time to establish his place a leader. The way everthing has unfolded so far could be a good thing in the future.
I expect him to make mistakes and grow this year. The best are usually forged in fire and brimstone. Hopefully GMac will become a weapon instead of just another instrument.

I couldn't agree with you more there KC. JPW did as well as could be expected under the circumstances. I too think GMc could very well be a playmaker as well as a manager of the game. I tend to think that the play calling will be semi-conservative in the beginning and will open up as Coach Mc and GMc become even more comfortable with each other.

I can only compare what was going on with JP when he was about to take over the starting role and what's going on with Greg.

Brodie was constantly working with JP to be able to understand what defensive schemes/sets he would see when both were working out at the QB position.

If there was one concern I had it was that - JP would struggle in that regard.

Now, this is a supposition, but a logical one, that one of the reasons JP focused on a single receiver was his pre-snap read. If he was still struggling in his Jr. year there's a chance that struggle was magnified with his post-snap reads.

I've often referred to Greg as a "real heady player." He's got football smarts, much more so than JP did when he was at the same stage of his career.

For that reason, I think any characterization of Greg being a JP part duex is far, far too premature.

I've seen the mention here a few times of "game manager." Yet, while we heard Saban say that last spring I've yet to hear him mention that phrase once this spring. (haven't watch his last presser if it's there)

I've got confidence in the kid. Heck, I had confidence in Ovalose, or Avolose, whatever his name was, (he beat S. Miss in his first start, I think) Gmacs high school vids are pretty impressive. Plus I thinks he buys into whatever system is presented to him, as good players should. Can't wait to see him take charge. RTR.....
