Gaylon McCollough on playing for āBearā Bryant, his career as a plastic surgeon and his new memoir
A: āAs an athlete, I worked really hard to win the starting quarterback position when I was in high school. Through no fault of my own, there was a coaching change. And the new coach in my hometown of Enterprise, Alabama, installed an offense that didnāt have a quarterback in it, the Notre Dame Box. ⦠I went from being a starting quarterback to being converted to a linemen in a matter of one meeting.
LOL...Coach Morris Higgenboatham was hired as the HC at Enterprise and Gaylon got the shaft. I played for Coach Hig at Livingston in 68. Jimmy Carroll another center from Enterprise and Bama center on the 66 team was an assistant for Coach Hig as well.
