I hate to say it but I wonder if half of Te'o's appeal is the tragic events surrounding the beginning of the season. Everyone loves a good story, and while Te'o has certainly proved his worth on and off the field, I don't think he'd be getting as much attention/love from the media if he wasn't this inspirational leader for his courage after his loved ones passed. I know the Heisman isn't just offensive success; it's the 'most outstanding player'. But I really don't think Te'o has had an "outstanding" season or has been the "most outstanding player" this year. It's not like he had a fumble returned for a TD in every game, or had 5 sacks a game. Hell, his 2011 season was better than his 2012 season in several departments:

Like, I really think he is a great player and a great kid, but he isn't an "outstanding" player who totally influenced the course of his team's season. On the other hand, JM (JH .. lol seriously?) had a big season and did so as a redshirt freshman; he beat Alabama, for one, in T A&M's first season in the SEC. They also came VERY close to beating both LSU and Florida. If that had happened, or if they even had one loss, the BCS picture could be a LOT different. Coulda, woulda, shoulda .. But still interesting to think about.

Jarvis Jones is another LB with stats as good or better than MT's are that's not even in the conversation. The only reason MT is mentioned is the human interest story / drama he had to deal with early this season. Good maybe even a great player but not any better than several others at his position. JM, on the other hand, has already surpassed two very recent QBs who won the Heisman. But he's a redshirt freshman and Klein is a senior. I'd vote for Klein just for that reason. JM will have a few more opportunities to win the big doorstop.

Stop being butt hurt that your better than average LB isn't going to win the Heisman. Poor games for a LB are hard to quantify, but I'd say a few 3 solo tackle games are pretty piss poor against Boston College and Pittsburgh. Go home. You are dumb to think Klein wouldn't have struggled against LSU, Florida and Alabama.

I'd give the Heisman to D.Moore or J.Jones or even J.Clowney over Teo.

I'm not butt hurt and didn't even mention Manti Teo. I see a strong case why he shouldn't be the front runner regardless of Teo. I think you're the one with the butt hurt considering ND is playing in the NCG against the Tide and not A&M.

I had to stop and think about that before responding, but my answer would be yes and here's why. Teo was already getting a lot of recognition this year prior to the unforunate incidents with his grandmother and girlfriend. He was getting this attention because he was sure to be drafted in the early rounds and had raised his level of play considerably from the previous year. His interceptions are the result of him dropping 10-12lbs that allows him to play the pass and run equally effective. The circumstances with his grandmother and girlfriend served as another vehicle to demonstrate how well he was playing even with a heavy heart. I would have to say that situation certainly didn't hurt him and probably helped him with some voters but it wasn't what got him into the conversation in the first place. For thise that don't follow ND Football as close as some of us, his teammates have said more than once he elevates their play and they don't want to be the one that disappoints him. Those are all factors that should be considered if voters follow the Heisman Mission statement, but as we've seen in the past, it's really turned into "The Best Offensive Playerr" award.

I do. Look at the whole of NDs season. If player x was the heart and soul of a defense that carried a pre-season unranked team to 12-0 and a berth in the Natty, I believe he'd be in the conversation, regardless if that team was Washington or Missisipi State, for instance.

Having said that, I get your point. It helps to have all of your games broadcast nationally. Notre Dame is the most watched college football team in America. Not just because of its fans, but also because of its haters!

I can't argue with what you've said. There is a certain burden that comes with the name and success and there will always be those that are envious of the success as fans of the Tide can attest to.
