Georgia Tech’s coaching transition was not cheap

The transition from coach Paul Johnson to Collins and the hiring of new staff cost the athletic department a little less than $6 million, associate AD for finance and administration Marvin Lewis said Thursday at the quarterly meeting of the Georgia Tech Athletic Association. Tech already was projecting to run a $2.8 million deficit for the fiscal year, but now will be closer to $9 million.

As a result, Tech’s fund balance – its money for a rainy day – has been depleted. It was about $6.65 million at the start of the fiscal year in July.

A lot of my buddies went to Tech and they are fine with this occurrence, because they feel the rejuvenation in their program with their new hire. He's not a stubborn ass like Johnson was and he will get on the recruiting trail, unlike Johnson. They were way more pissed/embarrassed by the Paul Hewitt fiasco and contract. Like Bobby Bonilla in college sports. Another Charlie Weiss. My best friend was going to cancel his season tickets at tech this year, until they signed the new guy, and he is sticking with it. So this decision is already keeping folks onboard and bringing in new folks as well.
