🏈 Gary Danielson explains Saturday's broadcast (the best he can)

Yeah we can let it die until the Ole Miss game...it will be more of the same. For the record, I'm not concerned with the Mark Ingram thing. I'm concerned with the flubs. Fayetville, Tennesee, Stallworth, Lionel...etc.

How can people defend them...they have a week to go through what they need to know about each team. How many games have they called(involving Alabama),and they still cannot get it right. lol Wish I could show up to work each week and make the same mistakes over and over again(and get paid like they do).

Verne not being able to follow the game, obviously talking out loud when he should be thinking to himself is what made me focus more on Danielson. Think because I have learned to block Verne out.

The past few games I simply turn on XM and listen to Eli call the game! :td:

Are Verne and Danielson annoying??? Yes at times, but I don't let them bother me as bad as some people do. Danielson is interesting to listen to doing interviews.

I'm not complaining too bad, I'm simply glad to be able to watch Alabama play football on TV! ;)

Oh lucky us, we also got to hear Iman in that hour as well! I love to hear Iman ACT like he's smart...idiot.

I miss Keith Jackson....now that guy loved some Alabama football.

I'm glad someone brought up Keith Jackson and I'm also glad that you felt as if Jackson loved Alabama football. Guess what? Fans from Ohio State, Florida State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Southern Cal... they all felt like Jackson loved their team.

Jackson was capable of injecting excitement into an accurately called game and you NEVER felt like he was rooting against you or was taking your team for granted. That's what makes a great national play-by-play man in my opinion.

About the only guy left that even comes close is Dick Enberg and unlike Verne, he's shown the good sense of easing himself into retirement.

what does ingram's old man being in jail have to do with anything? how is it relevant and why must such negative comments be made to a national tv audience? why even bring it up?
did my ears deceive me or did danielson say verne helped build the sec? and he loves alabama? as much as i despised howard cosell i have to say these 2 clowns will never make a pimple on howard's backside.
i miss the "whoa nelly" guy!

You are correct about the impartiality....He was a one of a kind....total class act.

i'm not anti-Verne. i think the best thing they could do for him given the nature of football players names is get him a list of the 5-10 most possibly goofed up names for each team where he can look at them prior to kickoff.

Gary Danielson would be great with a different accent. i just find his voice annoying.

Guys, I don't care how bad you think Danielson and Lundquist are, just try to watch a game on the mtn sometime. Danielson and Lundquist on their worst day are Jesus and Einstein calling football games compared to any broadcast team covering UNLV/Air Force or Utah/Colorado St.

I have no problem at all with these guys. Compared to everyone else, they're in the top 10%.

I'm going to get a lot flack for this, but I think Bama fans are WAY overreacting about this. Who cares if Verne made mistakes and maybe he does make more mistakes than the usual announcer. I really don't mind Danielson either. I thought it was a great called game.

They don't have to like Alabama just call the game and Verne and Danielson do that. I hope they continue to do so for many years.

Had it been a Auburn or Tennessee player Bama fans wouldn't care and there wouldn't be this big to do about it.

Let the flack begin.

Love how opinions turn into people overreacting.... for real? I do not see people yelling at each other and cussing. Forums are for opinions and I believe when people overreact in here the mods take care of it. This thread is not an overreaction to the question. Trust me, Aubrun/Tennassee have fans that would react the same way or similar to Danielson and Vern if this was an every game thing.

Why did Gary Danielson speak for Verne the whole time. Why didn't he try to explain all of his errors. Why didn't he try to explain his comments about Terry Grant?

That's what I kept thinking. Why wasn't Verne speaking for himself? Did he refuse an interview? Obviously someone at CBS heard our complaints.

I kept waiting for an apology to Terry Grant as well, and that was never even touched on. I haven't heard the Ingram jail comments, so to me the Grant comments were the worst.

Let me tell you I watch much less football than they do, and know more of the SEC players' names than they do.

I felt the whole interview was kind of arrogant and condescending. I know he was trying to defend their actions as harmless, but it leaves me feeling they don't do their homework or they're just plain arrogant. The comment about the SEC basically being "nothing" (too strong of a word but you get the picture) before Verne.....huh what?! You've got to be kidding me. Like the SEC is little boys without CBS. Uh, I think it's the other way around.

The only thing that will save these guys in my mind is if they truly bring their A game (and not the A game Danielson said they gave us the other day) to our next broadcast. They'd better be walking on egg shells the next time they come into Tuscaloosa. Somehow I just don't have much faith in that. At the end of the interview was it just me or was Danielson calling GMac "Craig"?! Case in point.

I caught that too, Delta. I believe he said something about Verne helping to put the SEC on the map which was kind of stupid.

As far as the arrogance is concerned, I am afraid that's a common thread that runs deep within the sports broadcasting community.

Me too. And Jackson would never, never have said, "whose father is in prison."

There is no way that is relevant. If the players are unhappy about an announcer who doesn't know their first names or doesn't know how to pronounce the names they do know, I'm bothered too. But it doesn't hold a candle to the offense of having a family member's incarceration broadcast on national TV. It offends me that it was an editorial board decision to get it out there.

What if it had been a player's mother? What if a player's mother was incarcerated for prostitution? Would the network decision makers think it necessary to broadcast that fact? I hope not.

No excuse is good enough for that. It does nothing to inform the game they are playing or the television audience. The fact that a player's father also played for the coach may be relevant, but what does his life after football have to do with his son? Why should the son suffer so publicly for his own successes through his father's mistakes? Broadcasting that only hurts an innocent player and the innocent members of his family.

I agree with you. As far as grant being in the dog house. I think they are refering to last season when he was in the dog house.

Right on point BD.:a:

No the flak is because they are still doing the same old song and dance as last year. They have not improved one bit and Danielson was asking for criticism last year to better this years broadcast. Guess what...they still cannot remember the same players and make stupid off the wall comments that are not even relevant to the game.

Enough about this from me.

You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink.

Or as Forest said "Stupid is as stupid does." or was that his momma:smile:
