or bored...

I was over on GoGamecocks.com, just to see what the other side has to say. Almost never do it. They believe in Garcia over there. I know he has gotten better this year, but really, its still Garcia. Anyway, pretty good talk till it got to the "Saturday is the beginning of our road to the National Championship!!! One down at a time!" kind of talk. They think their defense is as good as ours, and as good as their D is, its not going to be enough. They couldn't really answer our pass rush giving Snead, Mallett and Taylor trouble, or how they were going to run the ball. Mostly just they were going to keep it close and win in the end.
So, if you want to do somewhat civilaized banter, thats the place to go. I'm FlaTide over there.

NCAA rankings (through six games):
SCe total offense: 63rd
SCe scoring offense: 62nd
SCe total defense: 15th
SCe scoring defense: 30th

Bama total offense: 17th
Bama scoring offense: 12th
Bama total defense: 2nd
Bama scoring defense: 8th

Yah, they're pretty much even. *rolls eyes*

So far this year:
Bama's SOS > SC's SOS

And also
Bama's D > SC's D
Bama's O > SC's O
Bama's ST > SC's ST
Bama's Coaching > SC's Coaching

I understand them being eternal optimists (you have to be, to be a Gamecock fan)...but given a shred of rationality, they would understand that this is the beginning of their road to the annual second half slide, not a national title.

Its a given that any team can beat any team. Thats why they play the games. But this isnt the Bama they came here and beat in 2004. Out of 13 attempts they've only won 3 (and one was a forfeit-'93).

Lets use the only ranked team both have faced.

SC allowed 10 points from Ole Miss. Bama allowed a FG.

SC scored 16 points against Ole Miss. Bama scored 22. Not a big difference.

SC managed only 65 yards rushing against Ole Miss, and Bama had 200 (Ingram 172).

SC did manage more passing yards than Bama vs Ole Miss, but they also allowed OM double of what Bama allowed.

Now I watched both games. I attended 3 Bama games this year, and also caught the SC/ NC St game on tv. SC plays very sloppy and holds on by the edge of their seat. Spurrier takes alot of chances and doesnt have the talent to do so. He wont stick to the run, and calls pass plays too much. This isnt his '96 Gator team.

Bama has played two sloppy games in a row. Its time for them to wake up. Last year they played UK/OM back to back in two somewhat sloppy games. The next week they hammered UT 29-9. So I'm looking for a big wake up call and they will be more focused.

Its a given that any team can beat any team.

And that's where I come in. ;)

I'm just as worried about this game as any other, but even I can admit that this isn't the same team/same situation as 2004 when SC came in and beat us at home at night (as RTinGA stated).

I firmly believe that the only team that can beat Alabama right now is Alabama. If the guys play the way they're capable of with little to no mistakes that's it, game over. I will probably not feel the same if we end up playing Florida. If that does come about that's a whole 'nother conversation for another time.

Roll Tide one game at a time! :a:

Statistics aside, there is one plain and undeniable fact facing the 'cocks this Saturday in BDS.
This Alabama team is not the Alabama team that they remember from years past. This team is probably the most complete "team" in college football today. I don't think there's even one player on the Bama roster that is in this for personal glorification. Every single player on the team is in this for the team, and the win, and will do everything within their power to make sure that their opponents leave the field with a newfound sense of humility.
Also, this Tide team is now 6-0, and although they are taught to look at this game before they look at the next one, every single player also knows that they control their own destiny. Believe me, this #2 Bama team is not going to let a second-tier team like USCe come into BDS and ruin their season and their MNC title hopes. Doing so would make them and CNS all look like fools, and that's not going to happen. Not this week, and not to this Bama team.
I've lived in SC, and have seen many USCe teams. This year's Gamecock team is just like those in the past. They might talk "title", but that's all it is - talk. Visor Boy is a really good coach, but there hasn't been a coach there in decades who's been able to make them put in the "blood, sweat & tears" necessary to bring them up to that level. SOS no longer has the "fire in the gut" to motivate any team, much less this one, to the next level.
There hasn't been a new title banner hung in Williams-Brice Stadium since USCe was in the ACC, and IMO it's gonna be a lot longer before the next one goes up.
It's gonna be a long bus ride home, boys.
Bama 42 USCe 17

FWIW, the forum I watch/read for S. Carolina is cockytalk.com

Sure, they have some drunk on kool-aid—we all do. But, it's a pretty solid forum.
