Four-Down Territory
Show some emotion: Crimson Tide players needed to regain some swagger last week, and fighting hard to defeat Arkansas by a point helped them get some confidence back. Coach Nick Saban was more impressed that they showed emotion in big plays and felt joy in success. He worries that the players were too cautious trying to avoid mistakes or make poor decisions to make big plays. He just wants them to relax and have fun. Progress was made, but more needs to happen.

Bend but don't break: Texas A&M is going to get its yards. The Aggies possess the fourth-best offense in the country with an average of 564.9 yards a game. They like to throw the ball with the third-best passing offense at 396.0 yards a game. Passes are thrown so quickly that pressure on the quarterback is unlikely. The secondary must contain the receivers and force punts. And if an interception is available jump on it. Several defensive stops are going to be needed to win.

Hold on to the ball: This has become a regular concern. The Crimson Tide is ranked tied for 93rd in the country in turnover margin at minus-3. Fumbles are the biggest issue. Lately it's been on special teams. There were four fumbles and two lost in the last game against Arkansas. Alabama survived that because the Razorbacks don't have a quick-strike offense. If Alabama gives up possessions to the Aggies, they will score quickly and put the Tide on its heels early.

Control the tempo on offense: Alabama's offensive linemen were upset with themselves for the limited production last week. There were only 66 rushing yards. The Crimson Tide needs to go on long drives that end in touchdowns against the Aggies. That will eat up the clock, but most importantly keep the ball away from Texas A&M and rest the Alabama defense. Controlling the tempo will also be a needed confidence boost for the struggling offense.

Key Matchup
Alabama secondary vs. Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Hill

The Aggies like to throw the ball and they throw it well. Hill is second in the nation in passing. He has thrown for 2,511 yards, an average of 358.7 yards a game. Hill has completed 197 of 295 for 23 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His quarterback rating is 13th in the nation at 159.3. Several receivers are used and at least six of them have 23 receptions. Ricky Seals-Jones leads the group with 37 receptions for 377 yards and three touchdowns. Josh Reynolds has eight touchdown receptions. "We're going to be facing great receivers," safety Landon Collins said. "That's the best (for an offense) when you have a lot of good receivers and the quarterback gets the ball to each one of them."

Player of the Week
Landon Collins, S, Jr., 6-0, 222

Collins made the game-saving defensive play at the end of last Saturday's win over Arkansas. He picked off Brandon Allen's deep pass to end the last drive that could have won the game for the Razorbacks. There was no one else behind him. If he missed, Arkansas would have scored. Collins played well before that point. He was tied for second on the team in tackles with eight. He also had a tackle for a loss and two pass breakups. Collins has been playing well this season with a team-leading 46 tackles. He has two interceptions on the season, six pass breakups and a quarterback hurry.

By the Numbers
4: Number of field goals Adam Griffith has missed this season. He has missed four of his last five attempts in the past three games. He's 8 of 12 this season.

4: That's punter JK Scott's national ranking. The freshman averages 46.7 yards on 19 punts. There have been eight of 50-plus yards and a long of 64 yards.

99: Number of times opponents scored an offensive touchdown on Alabama. That's the least amount of touchdowns allowed nationally since the start of the 2009 season.
