🏈 Game thread for the weekend

Another week, another crop of games .. This weekend will be pretty bittersweet though.

Bowling Green and #14 N. Illinois .. Only game today. Something to watch before tomorrow I guess!

#17 Oklahoma and #6 Oklahoma State .. Should be a good game.

#25 Texas and #9 Baylor .. Go Baylor, because I just don't like the Longhorns haha.

#5 Mizzou and #3 Auburn .. TIGER BOWL. Hope Mizzou wins.

#7 Stanford and #11 Arizona State .. I really liked ASU as a kid for some reason, so I will root for them. Stanford's defense should mess 'em up though.

#20 Duke and #1 Florida State .. FSU is the 29 point favorite lol ouch. Hoping Duke can pull off the upset so an SEC team can make it into the BCSNCG again.

#2 Ohio State and #10 Michigan State .. OSU is favored by 6, but I think MSU's defense will make this a great game. Go Sparty!!!

I don't even think I want to watch football this weekend after last week. Sure as hell won't watch gameday because we all know what they will talk about :icon_puke_l:

I've been avoiding Sports Center and all related sports media outlets all week. They even brought it up during the Eagles-Cardinals game on Sunday .. :swear:

I have to work tomorrow, so I'm glad I won't be missing actual footage. I'll be tracking it on my phone. And feeling all of the feels as I think about what could have been.

I haven't watched SC or any sports this week either. And I didn't even get to see the Iron Bowl due to travel Sat... But I did pick up 2 lower level tickets for the ACC championship so me and a few folks are going to go tailgate and watch the game. Tickets were $45, under half price. That's with one team being #1 in the land... When have tickets for an SEC championship ever sold under half price? Our conference really is special.

Here's how I understand this whole thing this morning.

Ohio State losses today Bama is headed to the Sugar (Baylor?) Buckeyes win, all remains the same.

And there's that possibility Ohio State blows Michigan State out of the top 14...

The MAC teams took a financial hit with that loss. BG had them covered all night long, great game on their part.

Thanks, Terry. Moving to next year, do the second tier conferences still have that much volatility in bowl revenue should one of their teams break into one of the former BCS bowls, or was there any evening in the final negotiations? Also, barring the demise of a bowl game, I guess we need two more bowl eligible teams to fill all spots.

RTR,

Tim

It's been several months since I read over how the monies would be split.

The best I recall the compensations are already predetermined with those smaller conferences getting a percentage. I want to say the "Big Five" get just over 70% of the revenue from the playoff's (after expenses as it is today.) I recall Notre Dame gets 1%, so that would leave the smaller schools conferences getting 27-28% of the pie.

That's off the top of my head, Tim...I'd have to look it up again to be sure.

Lost me a bit on the last part...

Sorry, totally separate thoughts. Four teams selected to be part of the college playoff, previously just two playing for the BCS championship. That means two fewer teams in traditional bowl games.

If we're lucky we'll see some of the bowl games drop by the wayside...but as I see this you're right.

On a slightly different note: The fact that there's no limit on how many teams can be from one conference in the playoffs is beginning to dawn on a few of the media personalities. I caught SVP and Russillo talking about this yesterday and as their conversation went on they went to the inevitable question about "how long until people are clamoring for eight instead of four." (Which would mean six fewer teams in traditional bowl games.)

I thought it was interesting hearing both guys talk about how upset collegiate football fans are going to be when we move to eight and four are from one conference. It seemed like they had an epiphany that if we had eight this year we'd have four SEC teams—a point we've talked about ad nauseum.

That comes across as a pretty good deal until you look at a site like Stubhub and see tickets for $3 a piece.

When it goes to 8 teams (and I believe it will unless going to six happens with byes for 1 and 2), we can just call it The SEC Invitational.

Good luck getting to the game. Its 15 degree at my house and there is about an inch of ice on the road. Too bad I'm in India to miss this...
