It's obvious the AJ is the better QB, physically speaking. But to suggest that we just completely forget about winning football games this season when we still have a path to the BCS MNCG is just plain stupid. That's kind of the goal for the team, win the SECC & the BCS MNC. I think they should continue to try to win football games this season. That's everyone's opinion. You don't have to like it.
 
sitting Gmac at this point is not a good idea. i thought he had an OK game with the exception of not throwing the ball away. we all know his biggest weakness is sitting in the pocket too long. but this time he not only sat in the pocket too long, but he never got rid of the ball or threw it away. that cost us a whole lot of yards and put the team in down and distances that were too much given the stinginess of the SC defense. there were also a couple of big drops from the receivers from what i recall.

anywho... the bottom line is... if you put in a new QB, that's exactly what you'll have. If we were losing game after game and the QB was throwing picks, fumbling a lot, and checking down to triple reverses i'd say bench him, but i don't think there is another QB on Alabama's roster who would have won the game for us on saturday. the QB doesn't play on defense.
 
The single most thing to me that cost us this game is not G-Mac.
It is the simple fact that the defense could not get off the field on 3rd and long. Much less on 3rd and short. I think if we just get off the fields on 3rd and longs we win.
 
Ok guys its 3rd and 4. your down by 7 and on the opponents 25 yard line. You have the best 2 running backs in the nation and one of the best offensive lines. Those 2 running back are averaging almost 4 yards a carry in this game. 8 min left in the game if you score you tie and maybe change momentum and put it in the oppnents head that you just came back on them. So what do you do? of course you drop back and pass the ball and get sacked then try a fake FG. BAM that drive was the difference in us winning and losing that game. We score there and SC plays not to make mistakes on their drive. If it was in the 2 min offense I would understand not running it there. I even understand not running it to get to that point. But you are at that point do what you do best with the best.
 
This topic is idiotic.

Before kickoff we were the best team in the country, and growing that lead. Defending Champions, longest winning streak, Studs up and down the roster.

There is no change that can't be made with all pieces in place that can be made by removing part of the formula that got you to #1.

A refocusing, redoubling of effort is what is called for.
 
A lot, a whole lot of eating our own in here. Can we have a debate and analysis without the name calling? I suppose not.

Anyway, my opinion is that GMac had what it took to deliver us to the National Championship game last season so he is certainly capable of doing it again. He did throw for 315 yards against Carolina. Hanks missed a pass in the middle of the field that he, more than likely, would have scored on but was otherwise solid. Julio played with a freaking broken hand and Maze was rendered impotent for the most part.

Could it be, I don't know, that Carolina just had a better gameplan and intensity in the game? I also believe if AJ was called upon in the case of an injury we certainly wouldn't be mailing in the rest of the season. I believe in the kid too but this is McElroy's team for now and after listening to Coach Saban in numerous press conferences it will continue to be his team unless he has a complete breakdown.

The only thing "idiotic" about this thread is the inability of some posters to discuss football without coming off as idiots. Agree to disagree sometimes for cripes sakes.
 
Maybe I should have elaborated more on my post. Last years team was heavy on defense and a powerful running game. GMac was a part of that team and did outstanding at times. However at other times he was not so great and he didn't have to be. This year the team is different. We have a very green defense and we need our offense to be powerful. Outside of the Duke game we have been average. We need a better offense this year. In my opinion AJ would give us a different look and feel on offense. We need a playmaker at QB. Hopefully Greg can breakout and rock it the rest of the way. (I have wanted to see AJ since we signed him so I am guilty of bias)

I'm just gonna have to disagree wholeheartedly. I'm ready to see AJ too, but if your offense is "struggling" I would think the last thing you would want to do is put in someone who has no experience whatsoever. It's the same reason our defense is struggling right now. We have all the talent in the world on defense, but because of inexperience they aren't getting the job done. With our defense having enough problems with inexperience I have no idea why you would want to cripple your offense with the same problem. This is all looking past the fact that Greg is very very very much a leader of this team. He's done NOTHING this year to show that he deserves being sit down. You put him on the bench and you take that leadership away.

AJ will be fantastic one day, but there's too many negative effects to justify sitting down an NC winning, SECCG MVP QB for him.
 
point blank. GMac is not going to lose you a game. He can't win you a game either. AJ can win you a game yet he can lose a game. Greg low risk low reward. AJ high risk high reward.
 
My belief is that if Ingram is healthy he should get 30 touches in a game like last Saturday. He should get more than eleven in ANY game. Put the ball in the playmakers' hands. GMac, if I'm reading the comments by both sides on this thread, is not the go-to guy, and by going to him almost exclusively we played into South Carolina's hands. I lay the outcome of those decisions at the feet of those calling the plays.

I would lose with Ingram carrying the ball... lots. I can take losing that way much better than the way it played out last Saturday.

If SC can stop Ingram four times inside the ten they deserve to win.

Thanks guys. This discussion is great now that it's back on track. We have some fantastic and knowledgeable posters on this site.

I think McElwain needs to dance with the girl that brought him. Did we operate more than once out of the pistol on Saturday? I don't remember much if we did and I erased this game promptly from my DVR. I could not stomach watching that game again. That's the coaches job to have to watch and analyze that crap anyway. Like Sandra, that game has really stuck in my craw too. I just don't believe that South Carolina is that much better than us. I just don't believe it! I don't ever expect Saban's teams to not improve in each and every game or at least play like they care.

All the media attention we have had this year has been a blessing but like Saban alluded to in his presser, it can be one heck of a curse if the team starts to believe it. Maybe the loss will serve as an important reminder from the coaches to the players all the way to some of the fans. Never take winning for granted.
