When it comes to speed, Diggs is going to beat Levi all day, everyday. In camp speed shines.
As "slow" as Levi is he's one of the best when it comes to technique. People think he's fast because of where he's found on the play. He found there because of his recognition but more importantly his technique. So, we see him in games against our other opponents and he's recognizing what they are doing and jumping--again, something that's practically impossible to judge in practices because of the familiarity. Our DB's should be jumping routes, etc. against our offense.
And then ... Diggs has had some growing pains which has allowed Levi to shine. Without those, we likely wouldn't have seen Levi as much as we have.
Diggs reminds me a lot of Cyrus Jones early in his career. Kind of bounced between receiver and DB before settling in at corner and becoming an All-American. Diggs is a little tougher because he didn't just bounce from receiver to corner. He bounced from receiver to safety to receiver to corner. Combine that with punt returner, too is tough. Cyrus didn't have to really juggle the return duties at first because Christian Jones was doing it. Diggs has that length that Saban loves plus the speed. If he can just continue to improve with his technique I think he'll be a good one. I think he and Shyheim Carter will be really good and Mayden is really physical and also has that size. That's three corner over 6 foot with great speed right there and i think we've all forgot Kyriq McDonald and Nigel Knott are still there waiting in the wings.
