šŸ’¬ Fritz Pollard Alliance wants NFL to investigate Raiders. How long before we see this in college?

The Fritz Pollard Alliance has changed its tune regarding the compliance of the Raiders with the Rooney Rule.

ā€œWe are deeply concerned by reports that the Oakland Raiders’ owner, Mark Davis, came to an agreement with Jon Gruden about him becoming the Raiders’ next head coach before interviewing any candidates of color,ā€ the group said in a statement issued on Wednesday night. ā€œIf so, the Club violated the Rooney Rule, which was instituted by the NFL in 2003 and requires teams to interview at least one candidate of color for open head coaching and general manager positions.

ā€œAs soon as we learned of the reports, we formally requested that the NFL thoroughly investigate the matter to conclusively determine whether the Rooney Rule was violated — and if it was violated, to impose an appropriate punishment.ā€

The news of a potential violation didn’t come from ā€œreports,ā€ however. The news came from an admission by Raiders owner Mark Davis that, as many suspected, the Raiders reached an agreement in principle with Gruden before firing Jack Del Rio. Which, as PFT explained when it was merely suspected that the Raiders struck a deal with Gruden before firing Del Rio, means that the job was never vacant. Which means that there was no way of complying with the Rooney Rule, no matter how many minority candidates were interviewed after Del Rio was fired.

As noted earlier today, PFT asked the league during a recent media briefing whether it’s permissible to reach an agreement in principle with a new coach before firing the current coach. The league still hasn’t provided an answer, quite possibly because there is no good answer.

oh fuck off you "we're all equal and we all need the same things given to us" piles of shit.

i can not STAND people like this. they think that just because they give the job to a white guy, they didn't interview anyone else for it. well, that's their prerogative. if they wanna hire someone who isn't a color other than white, i have no problem with that. they went after the person they thought best for the job. this whole "equal because of color" bullshit gets on my freakin' nerves. we're all human, but we're not all equal. and too many time the best person for the job doesn't get the job because somebody pressures them into giving the job to someone else based solely on their skin color.

and that is discrimination any way you look at it. i don't give a shit who you are, the best person should get the job...PERIOD. but if that person is white, then let's all call out the person who hired them and basically call them racist for doing so.

and this "rooney rule" is a bunch of bullshit, too. what right does any person/organization/government entity have to tell me i can't hire someone based solely on their qualifications and i HAVE to interview so many candidates who are of a certain skin color?

i say, fuck them and their affirmative action bullshit. forcing someone to interview or hire someone else based on their skin color is discrimination...plain and simple.

Say what? Listen, it's an NFL rule. No one has to hire anyone they don't want to hire, after the interview. Nothing you just vented has anything to do with what the Raiders had to do, other than interview a minority candidate. And they will pay for that mistake, as they should.

Did you miss the part that it's an NFL rule? Why should players go through waivers? Why does the league have arbitration? Because that's what the owners and players negotiated. And dems the rules.

Well aware of the rule but I guess I misconstrued your last comment. Read like you were a believer in the rule and I was curious as to why. If I was wrong on that my bad.

I do believe in the rule, but this particular NFL rule has never been affirmative action. You do an interview with a minority candidate and go hire Gruden. What's so hard about that?

i know, but i just wanted to vent. i've always thought that rule was stupid as hell ever since they implemented it.

forcing a company to interview certain people based on certain criteria is just wrong, in my opinion.
