🏈 Franchione?

"I never publicly said some things when I left and they are better off left alone at this point in time," he said. "Maybe some day I will tell my story."

Not long thereafter, the line with the Texas area code went dead.

@TerryP
The line that went dead...same one Rainer was using to talk to fRan?

He can't say much, if anything. All he can really say is he feels UA lied to him about the severity of the sanctions...like he lied to them, players..

Hell, told me face to face he wasn't leaving when we'd already found his new domains under, and referencing the 12th man...confronted him with the evidence.

FACT: UA was blindsided and he knows that as FACT.

TRUTH: He quit because he couldn't handle the job.

** The burial of Kim's dad in Bama gear ticks me off today as much as it did back then. It wss a "Gus Bus" type of move**

When Saban leaves, this job is going to be a tough fit for a lot of excellent coaches. Being good won't be good enough. Strong at Texas, RichRod at Michigan, Fran at Alabama, all recent examples of terrible fits at great football schools.

More importantly, all examples of the boosters and lower ADMIN personnel sticking their noses in the football program(s) and making the situations far more worse than they were.

I spoke with him at one of his spring clinics and he looked me dead in the eye while shaking my hand and said, "I know these sanctions are going to be rough, but WE are going to make it through."
It wasn't too long after that, he left those kids "holding the rope". I was all for going out to College Station and hanging him with said rope!!

And the culture at the top will always be a big part of those pressure points. It may not be a perfect science but the next search committee will have their hands full deciding who can do it all.

The thing is, would Bama be where it is today, if Bama had not been blindsided by both the ncaa and fran? Those of us that are still here today, are reaping the positive side of those actions. Those that have not been able to remain are the ones that suffered through the darkness and never got to see the light at the end of that tunnel. I am thankful that I have been able to witness the success of Bama football not seen since Coach Paul Bryant. Even more so.

ROLL TIDE!

Kudos on the info, I never knew about the 12th man stuff. I knew about all taking off in the middle of the night after the Hawaii game tho, didn't he leave a note with his goodbyes and one of the assistants (Torbush?) had to read it to the players or something like that?

Remember how Fran was always standing on the sideline, writing on his little pad after plays. One time Bama got torched and the cameras showed Franny doing that. My buddy said, "Note to self: don't ever do that again."

So, later in the game, or maybe it was the next game, what does Bama do? The same thing. We get torched. And, there's Fran again on the sideline, looking at his pad like "Didn't I make a note of that already?" He was flipping it back and forth, front and back, so fast it was fanning his effeminate face.

Thought it was more the players finding out via Mike Raita from ABC 33/40. I recall him following him out to College Station and then calling him out during his introductory press conference. I think A LOT of the A&M people got a taste of just what a POS he truly was.

Speaking of the Fran years, does anyone here believe that Saban really did call us cheaters before the LSU game that year? After we beat them Fran had some words with Saban at mid field but no one knows what was said. People at the time thought he was giving Saban a piece of mind about his supposed comments.

fRan was considering a few schools in late 2001 (prior to our sanctions), one of them was Kansas.

The 77-0 beat down by OU vs TAMU was awesome and essentially getting fired over a newsletter was icing on the cake.

It totally sucked. The team was improving, despite the sanctions. The UA strength and conditioning coach had just won the award for best SC coach; you could see it on the field too. And then he left the way he did. It sucked.

Not in my wildest dreams did I think we'd be were we are at this point after that. Roll Tide!
