And all four are doing pretty well coming out of RD1. I know, tied for 29th or 61st may not seem like they're doing well. Being below, or around par at the Open?!? Yah, that's playing some pretty good golf.

For all of you that enjoy the game of golf, this is one of my favorite events of the year. The "short" rough this year is deadly...but good god, have you seen how high and thick the second cut is this weekend? I'd be playing a few provisionals and I'm pretty good off the box.

With water, you know to take your medicine and move on. With this place, all you can do is grip tight and keep hacking away. Lots of triple bogies in a hay field. Can't wait for round 2.

Personally, that's why I'd play a provisional. IF, IF I found my ball, more than likely taking an unplayable and the drop. A bogey versus a triple? There's not much of a decision there in my eyes.

Have you ever tried playing out of a thick Fescue? You miss one shot and you're looking at a snowman, quickly. Normally, I can get out of the 4-5" rough easily enough to where I can play my next shot.

(A part of me, the sadistic side, hopes rain comes through.)

If you can read the fescue and swallow your pride, a provisional might be the smart play. I was watching Jason Day hack away yesterday and I was thinking how easy it would be for one hole to completely take you out of this thing. But if you can keep it on the fairway there are birdies to be had. And to answer your question, never that high and thick. If I had, I'm sure I would remember experiencing some serious equipment failure in short fashion.

Read the fescue. I'd imagine a lot of these guys could read Latin more easily--especially in windy conditions.

I've played out of fescue cut at that 4-5" mark, but never at a knee high length. There's a course in N Mississippi--just south of Memphis--that's owned operated by Holiday Inn (or used to be at least.) They had rough growing a lot like that but it was a field paspalum. I've always called it Dallisgrass, some call it Johnsongrass, others crowngrass, some bahiagrass. (I see it here and you probably see it there as well. We're about on the same longitude.) That only got to about 8-9" on the undergrowth, with the seed heads growing a good 2'. I could toe a club in and it would open it up quickly, and vice-versa. In this area, there's a lot more OB than there is rough like this. Of course, water and sand in bunches!!!

Yeah, read, like when to surrender. You sound like you enjoy a tough course, this one is for you. Wisconsin looks a lot like Scotland this week, just need a few more bunkers and a nasty wind, which they promise Sunday. Right now it's taking the best players to the woodshed with Rory and Jason gone and a few more notable players on the bubble. I heard earlier in the week this course was playing even more difficult around the edges. They decided to exercise the mercy rule and cut a lot of the knee-high fescue on Tuesday.

I really do enjoy a tough track--especially when Mother Nature is playing as well. A local sports radio station has a Summer Golf Tour each year. Monday is at Wild Dunes Harbor Course. Foursome, $98.90. It's a true links course that runs a continuous loop of 18 so it never comes back to clubhouse until you're done. There's not a hole on the course that doesn't have water, half of them off of the ocean. Add the wind?

Trey gonna fool around and end up on the leader board. :-) Sitting at -3 now
There's what, five or six that haven't teed off yet?

I noticed they are forecasting a T-storm to come through around 4-5 o'clock but it looks like it'll be a short one. Hopefully, it'll be a hard one and leave the back nine sopping wet for these last groups.

Supposed to rain a little tonight as well. That'll make the later groups tomorrow playing in better conditions.

BTW, there was a little feature a few hours ago about the golf courses that are cropping up around Wisconsin. It was enough to make me want to take a trip up there to play golf for a week.
