🏈 Former Tide DB Rod Woodson transfers to North Alabama

Bowden has matured as a HC and may be just what these "agreed transfers" need. Do not be surprised if UNA becomes a place for studs to get a second chance. It would've been nice to Grant play out his eligibility. In the right system he's a handful for defenses.

I'm not sure Terry ever came back 100% from that sports hernia. Seems like he had trouble making cuts and jukes after that, and he was a master of it, back in early 07. He was posting big numbers.

Good for Rod to venture up to N. Alabama. That place has been a powerhouse in D2 football for a long time, and as much crap as people gave Terry Bowden, he might just know a thing or two about coaching football. I'd rather have Terry than Tommy, and Tommy isn't a bad coach by any means.

As a UNA alum, and someone that watched almost every UNA home game last year, I will respectively disagree about the comments regarding Terry Bowden as a good coach. UNA had more talent on last year's team than any other team in D2, but they were one of the most penalized teams in the nation, and had issues with turnovers. Personally, I think Bowden had no thoughts of sticking around at UNA, and hoped that his 26 D1 transfers would just win a bunch of games and a D1 school would come calling. Maybe now that he realizes no one wanted him, he will actually try to "coach" the team this year in hopes of impressing a bigger school.

Lower level schools with a large number D1 transfers have to manage the baggage they bring in. They're not all thugs, and many are there because it's their ticket to playing time; however, even good kids transferring in can change the team dynamics. Discipline and team standards are key to being able to assimilate them successfully into the program.

I always admired the job Bobby Wallace did at UNA. He attracted some very good athletes who fell short (academically, behaviorally, etc.) of D1 standards, kept them under control and had a DII dynasty. His teams, to some degree, reminded me of some of Beamer's better teams at VaTech.

RTR,

Tim
