"Bruce Snyder, who led Arizona State to a perfect regular season and the 1997 Rose Bowl, died Monday after a 10-month fight against cancer. He was 69.

After leading the Sun Devils to an 11-0 regular season, Snyder earned consensus 1996 national coach of the year honors. He also was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year twice, once at Arizona State and in 1990 as California's head coach."

This really saddens me for I had an opportunity to meet Coach Snyder and spend an entire game day with him and his coaching staff back in 1995 when I was selected to be an honorary faculty coach for the Stanford-Arizona State game. He went out of his way to make me feel welcomed and also part of the team and staff, providing me an experience I'll never forget.

What struck me most about Coach Synder was how focused, driven, and positive he was as a coach. He also seemed to sincerely care about his players and the people who surrounded him.
