šŸ“” Former Arkansas quarterback, Ryan Mallett, dies from drowning accident in Florida.

Former Michigan and Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett died after drowning in Florida on Tuesday, according to a report from Deltaplex News in Pine Bluff, Ark. He was 35 years old.

According to the report, Mallett was transported from a beach to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Mallett began his college career at Michigan, spending his freshman year as the backup to Chad Henne. After the season, Mallett transferred to Arkansas, where he would start 26 games in 2009 and ’10.

My daughter and son in law and Grandson are being stationed there in August from Tampa. Gonna haft to make sure to bring this to their attention.
Just keep mindful of the warnings and flags.
Red is a no go
Yellow is for people accustomed to the rip currents.
Purple is usually jelly fish,(there’s always sharks but they usually leave you alone as long as you’re not fishing and have a bait bag).
When we were teenagers we’d ride the rip currents out and down the beach. I know stupid but we grew up in these waters (Pensacola, destin, Perdido).

Has it been confirmed that he was caught in a rip tide?
I saw the reports the sheriff was raising Hell at the visitors for not adhering to the red flag… however, a lot of times the lifeguards vacate the beach and partake in a mental vacation… the lifeguards can close the area and enforce it…BTW red flags up dont exactly explain the gravity of the situation to people…it could mean Red Tide, Rip Tide, or Heavy undertows..

Rip tides are joke. I lived on the Gulf Coast for 7 years. We would not even step foot on the beach on a red/double red flag day.

It's also possible that he suffered a medical emergency while swimming and a rip tide wasn't the reason. Just curious.

He probably panicked… the best thing to do is float or swim diagonally with the shore… but I must admit the first time I got caught in one in Daytona.. I nearly freaked out.. but the undertow was even worse to go along with it…Dayton is famous for that..
