šŸˆ Former Alabama star Deshea Townsend now on other side of rivalry with Mississippi State

Deshea Townsendunderstands the task Mississippi Statecornerbacks have with stopping Alabama'sAmari Cooper.

The second-year MSU cornerbacks coach starred for the Crimson Tide at corner from 1994-97, starting for four years and earning all-SEC honors before a long NFL career.

The Batesville, Miss., native said his recruitment came down to Alabama and Mississippi State, and it was pretty close. He'll return there on Saturday with the No. 1 Bulldogs (9-0, 5-0 SEC) against No. 5 Alabama (8-1, 5-1) at Bryant-Denny Stadium at 2:30 p.m.

"It's always great to go to Tuscaloosa, but the great thing is that I'm on the other sideline now so I'm always pulling for the team I'm with," Townsend said Wednesday.

Townsend said the rivalry is special and he remembered playing Mississippi State during the season and visiting with Bulldog players when he would return home.

Townsend played 13 years in the NFL and coached for two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before coming to Mississippi State in 2013.

What are the chances Deshea gets vilified if our passing game has a good game?

In no particular order, the MSU fans will go after Slive, the SEC office being in Birmingham, or their old standby (likely learned from their counterparts in the SEC found in Mississippi) and blame it on the refs.
