šŸ“” Former Alabama QB, Lance Tucker, returns to state as Demopolis coach

Hot take warning, but first hand experience:

Lance Tucker is an entitled Douchebag.

I was on the coaching staff at Sipsey Valley his one year there.

All he wanted to do was scrimmage and install. Zero focus on fundamentals. And Sipsey Valley's first few seasons were all the "leftover" kids that didn't want to stay at County High. So they weren't the most naturally talented bunch in comparison. So a huge emphasis SHOULD have been placed on fundamentals, but sadly... There was no focus at all on that. We were lucky if he decided to run the antiquated Oklahoma drill at the end of practice twice a week. "Just TACKLE HIM!" He'd yell, zero focus on technique. Lots of injuries that year because of lack of technique. I'd try to coach the kids up on the sideline, but if it's not being drilled multiple times a day every day, it's not going to stick.

He'd then bitch and cuss the kids at halftime on Friday nights for not doing what he was SUPPOSED to be coaching during the week, but wasn't.

I started staying outside the locker room during halftime to avoid the scene of verbally bitch slapping him in front of the kids.

Then Waldon announced his retirement from Fayette the following Spring, and Lance bailed to take over for daddy. He USED Sipsey Valley as a stepping stone, knowing his dad was going to retire.

We then got a COMPETENT replacement HC (the guy that actually brought me into coaching) that DID focus on fundamentals, and by year 2 of his tenure, we had a bunch of mostly average-talented kids in the playoffs.

We had a couple of bright spots on the roster. Garret Lewis was a stud QB. Came up with us in middle school at Lloyd Wood. Kid was throwing 40 yard frozen ropes in the 7th grade. Ended up signing a scholly with Navy. But his one season with Lance almost ruined him.

See, Fayette has always had Dawgs most years. Natural athletes bred in the country. Naturally strong and fast. You can get away with mostly scrimmaging and installing at a place like that for a good while because of the type of players that come through there. He won a State championship after he took over for Waldon. But, the first couple years the well starts to run dry from those naturally gifted kids, and the product on the field starts to suffer because there's NO FOCUS ON FUNDAMENTALS.

It'll be the same way at Demopolis. Lots of strong, naturally gifted country boys there too.

Coach Saban teaches at his clinics, when referring to building good habits or correcting bad habits:

"You're either teaching it (good OR bad habits), or you're allowing it (bad habits) to happen"

Lance has a history of allowing bad technique/fundamentals habits to happen.

Hopefully the light bulb finally flips on for him and he changes his coaching style.

But, I doubt it.
