Cody, meanwhile, had Internet-savvy Crimson Tide fans concerned when on Wednesday night his girlfriend messed around with his Facebook profile and jokingly posted that he was going pro.

It only took a couple of minutes before the responses started coming in like, well, a mountain, and totally overwhelmed the newly named All-American. Cody even joked that he might need someone to walk with him to his dorm so he wouldn’t be kidnapped.

“Everyone started freaking out,” he said. “It was crazy.”

I know there's already a link in another thread, but I thought this was worthy of its own:

I've always thought that's kind of creepy. People "facebook stalking."

It is creepy. But, an application like that where everyone's personal life (at least what they are willing to post) is laid bare, sometimes it can't be avoided. If I was a person in the limelight, I would be extremely wary of what I post.

Hell, I'm just a manager at a hotel in a small town and I don't put too many things out there.

Duly noted.

What I was getting at is that "Add as a friend", most of the time, means you know them and are their friend.

Moreno: I agree. There's a lot of regulation that goes on in athletics concerning facebook, myspace, and the like.

I don't believe anything I read on facebook from supposed famous people. Just think, there's no way of proving it is actually their page. I could open up a facebook profile and claim to be Nick Saban if I wanted to, and post all sorts of stuff, and who could prove it wasn't Nick?

See? Take it all with a grain of salt....
