one who stands for law and order, that'll make their voices heard in November.
Someone is going to have to take the bull by the horns and actually show leadership and say this is NOT what we are going to allow. I am afraid these Mayors and Governors have let the jenny out of the bottle so to speak and it is going to take some real resolve and leadership to fix it. Whoever does this will get hammered my the media because it will not be politically correct. Kind of reminds me of having to take a stand with my son at times that was not very popular but it was necessary.

Keisha Lance Bottoms is simply following Stacey Abrams' lead in hopes of climbing that political ladder. Abrams refused to concede and whined and pouted about racism at the poles and somehow became the new spokesgal. Now Lance Bottoms is attempting to ride racism to a VP nomination and making national headlines. Sad thing is, this is the kind of crap that truly makes people not want to change, because you clearly see the motives behind it and realize it is sensationalized for TV time. It's unfortunate that this has overshadows the poor kid down in Brunswick. Folks in Atlanta absolutely hate Lance Bottoms by the way. She is a tad less corrupt than the last mayor, but she's still a typical Democrat (take advantage of her constituents) and politician (screw everyone to get to the top and abuse the system) in general.

This whole shooting in Atlanta should have been avoided. They have his car and they know where he lives. However 1st degree murder it ain't. Also why did he shoot three times. I feel that it was just reaction and adrenaline.

Ya know, when we see a Bama guy get busted for a DUI what's the overwhelming reaction? Stupid move. Should have called Uber, etc.

Yep, could have and should have been avoided. Uber would have been a good place to start. Not starting a fight with the officers would have been another good option. Not stealing the officers weapon? Yeah, that could have been avoided as well.

So, they first speak calmly with the suspect for 30 to 40 minutes, they follow protocol to seek a sobriety test, he fails, they are arresting him, he resists. They try to take him to the ground, without striking him, he wrestles with them, clocks one of the officers in the face, steals a taser. For a moment, the struck officer was down (his attorney said he suffered a concussion), so the pursuing officer is now alone and is trying to get a shot with his taser when he is shot at with the other officer's taser - and then he returns fire with his pistol in self defense. You don't fire once in self defense, particularly with his likely load of 9mm. Those three rounds were fired very quickly, he connected with two, and once he saw they had effect, he stopped.

Yes, it could've all been avoided by the suspect not driving drunk, not following officer's instructions, not attacking an officer, not stealing his taser, and not fleeing. It's a terrible situation, one no officer wants to be in, but at that point he is justified.

Were it you or I, shooting someone in the back after they were running away from a fight we had would lead to charges and a trial. Same is happening here. Whether he is found guilty or not, or should be, is a wholly different question.

Thank goodness there is very clear video of him turned back, shooting at the officer.

Will Police unions survive this when its all said and done?

They've protected some bad behavior for a while, but also protected to police from overzealous city leaders / politicians.
Unions also back the Democratic Party regardless of who it is. So I don’t know how this is going to pan out on that front since it’s the Democrats that want to abolish the police.

They want to do whatever is to their advantage. That just happens to be it right now. That is what politicians do.
I get it...point is they're not biting, but cutting off the hand that feeds them, unions sink double to triple digit millions of dollars in the dems coffers. I spent over 20 years in the IBEW...they want to give you a little blanket party if you voted anything but Democrat,....all about the money and power...on both sides, jmo

The laws of unintended consequences.

I've entertained the thought these last few weeks that a lot of people who are normally apolitical will be motivated by those taking the stance of "defunding the police" and it'll show up in the voting booth. Like a lot of independent voters who don't participate in polling it's a segment of the population, one who stands for law and order, that'll make their voices heard in November.

I don't know if you've read over the thread on the non-sports forum about the Democratic members of Congress, and others, and their suggested "soft coup." I glanced over it recently and noted in May of '19, while talking about groups like QANON, the movie Vendetta came up. That's eerily similar to some events in a few cities around the nation today.

When Congress entered their Russia/Ukraine/Impeachment process and we began hearing about the abuses with the FISA courts, within law enforcements agencies, etc., I made the comment that could lead to Trump taking a "law and order" stance for the next election.

Here comes the virus and those stories fall by the wayside...

But here were are back again to a vote on law and order in a lot of states around the US.

I never lost hope on ya!šŸ˜‰

These United States of America are no more. The civil unrest is going to continue to worsen because a sizable segment of the populace are fed up with being told that everything is their fault. The media are painting the right as the agitators of the riots. The Boogaloos is one such group because they dared be seen. There will be another ā€œincident ā€œ or 10 with law enforcement because the extremes in the movement are emboldened to keep pushing. There will be confrontations and maybe bloodshed.

That is between now and November. Regardless of the victor in November, the last embers of the Republic will be snuffed out soon there after. There will be an entire generation of malaise under an authoritarian type of government if we survive it intact.

Could be the last gasp of a movement that ain't going anywhere. It ain't happening locally and the flight of good folks to places like here is happening. Keep your no police state and see what happens. Just hope they leave their wacky politics there.

Most likely scenarios:

1. The US continues to exist in name but essentially becomes the North American version of your standard Latin American country. An oversized poor welfare state with a mix of Brazilian and South African style politics.

2. The US begins to internally splinter in a manner akin to the USSR in the late 80s.

3. The worst, but most unlikely, the US enters into an internal crisis akin to what happened in Yugoslavia in the 1990s or present day Syria.

The best one to hope for is number two. Number one is the most depressing to think about, because it is the most likely. The idea of living in some neo leftist shithole in which the largest demographic is constantly demonized is a horrifying thought. Dig in and make sure we don't experience the outcome of number one.

Number three is the doomsday scenario. Lots of dead people, and the mini nations that arise afterwards will most likely despise one another.

The shooting could’ve been avoided by the cops taking jit jitsu or some other ground fighting tactics could’ve also been avoided had Brooks not fought or shot at the cop with the taser.

No idea what was going through the policeman's mind but is it possible he did not know if the person stole a taser or gun? Never seen a taser so not sure how much it looks like a gun or if under the conditions it would be harder to tell.

@ElephantStomp are the police taught to assume a threat until you know because doing otherwise might get you killed?
