🏈 Football. Alabama Finalizes 2014 Football Schedule

The University of Alabama completed next season's football schedule on Wednesday with an agreement to play Southern Miss in Tuscaloosa on September 13, 2014. Alabama's schedule includes seven home games, four road games, and one neutral site game next season.

The Crimson Tide will open the 2014 season against West Virginia, which will take place in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game for the second straight year and fourth time overall. Alabama opened the 2008 and 2009 seasons in Atlanta with wins over Clemson and Virginia Tech, respectively. UA and Virginia Tech kicked off the season this year in the Georgia Dome on August 31. Home games in 2014 include Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss, Florida, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Western Carolina and Auburn. Road games are Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tennessee and LSU.

I couldn't make Tuscaloosa this year due to surgery, but damn... that Gators / Tide meeting on the 20th already has me starting a Tide trip piggy bank!!!

It's good to have Southern Miss back on the schedule, even though they're a shell of their former teams. WV stands to hurt our SOS. Two open weeks again, ahead of Ole Miss and LSU.

I like it a lot. Three warm up games for a new QB. Lots of "new" starters. Couldn't be better.

We have a really good shot at going undefeated .. TAMU and LSU should be less of a threat, though games at Death Valley can be tough (especially at night: their record for night games there is really good). Auburn at home will be nice.

Not trying to jump the gun or anything, just looking at it as it appears now. Though with a new QB leading the offense, who knows.

I was speaking in general, but yes we do have a great record there. The recent records are really good for them:

"Since 2000, LSU is 53-5 in night games and head coach Les Miles is 28-1 in night games in Death Valley"

There's no denying they've been successful at night. However, there is a caveat with those numbers.

How many times has LSU played their "big games" at night? The last few years our game has been at night because CBS chose to make it second game of their double-header. But when you look at their schedule and when they've played the other power teams in the SEC those games have been picked by CBS for afternoon slots—and their record isn't near as good as it's made out to be.

Just as a side note: When it comes to home field advantages LSU ranked 88th out of 120 teams to start the season. (Largely due to their success on the road.) Ours is worse.

Our home field advantage is worse.

We've played better on the road (or neutral sites) over the last several years and when calculating a teams home field advantage a lot is about how much more a team scores when at home versus what they score on the road.
