🏈 Florida Gators unanimous No. 1 of football magazines

Best Tebow quote, when asked what sport he would be playing if not football -- "Baseball. I would pitch, and maybe play first base and the outfield. I like hitting."

He could probably beat the Reds all by himself.

I think it's safe to say that The Sporting News (TSN in the pic) marches to the beat of a different drummer.

Look at the disparity on a few of the teams.

They've got Oregon ranked as #7 and Phil Steele doesn't even have them in his top 25.

I'm still amused every time I see these compilations.

"Look at what Ole Miss did last season! We've got to rank them highly."

But,

"Oh, at the same time don't look at LSU's struggles at QB last season. It has no bearing on this year."

Just one more complaint about TSN (if you don't mind.)

It's obvious, they don't know what they are talking about when it comes to bowl selections.

As example, they've got the Outback Bowl picking 'Bama. Sure, it's possible. But, they fail to take into consideration that the Outback's hasn't had a team from the West since following the 1996 regular season.

Just like the Cotton has its choice of the highest team in the West that hasn't been selected by the Sugar, the Outback is in the same situation with teams from the East. It's an established tie in with the Eastern division of the SEC.

...i heard that actually the recent all-star votes were going to be wiped out on the national league side and tebow is going to take on the american league all by his lonesome.

on another note... ole miss #5? whatever, i'm tired of talking about it

i guess its just further for that nutt to fall.

True about the Outback selection. Especially since they(TSN) pick Bama at #13 and UGA at #15. UGA wouuld have to be out of the Top 25 for Bama to be picked by the Outback.

OK, so I'm dying for Fall Practice to start. The wife was under the weather and went to bed early, so being an engineer and a die-hard Bama fan, naturally I played around with poll number statistics . OK, I watched some highlight vids from 09 first, then numbers.

Warning! This is just for fun. It's not a serious statistical analysis, but it's interesting none the less... if you can keep up with my "logic" or lack there of.

First the original Poll "average" from the link above

From this, I averaged the rankings together to see how that differed from the original "points" system. {NOTE: This rest of this works better with more data points (7 or more polls for ex), but 4 is all we have.} I first identified the "highest" and "lowest" rank assigned to each team and eliminated it from the scoring, producing a "Filtered Rank", and re-sorted the list.
I then tried to assign a ranking for the "quality" of the person(s) ranking the teams based on closeness to the other ranks. Green meaning they were all very similar, gray for those that were either too high, or too low based on the other ranks, blue for those that "tied" for a high or low rank, and yellow for those "high" or "low" ranks that were "close" enough not to penalize for being an outlier. I assigned 1 point for gray, 1/2 point for blue, and no points for yellow.

I totalled the poller's numbers (row 26)and that led to Athlon and Lindy having the "best" ranking. I then only used their numbers to come up with a new poll based on their rankings only.

I didnt do it this way to get the numbers I want, although obviously I prefer these rankings . Oh well, back to waiting for Fall practice.

That's the problem with this voting process. If only there'd been a place on the ballot for write-ins. Tebow could've played himself in the World Series.
