šŸˆ Florida CB Janoris Jenkins Tasered/Arrested

The biggest sentiments on this subject from Gators are:

1) What the hell was this guy doing trying to fight five guys for a damn chain?

2) Troubling that this is a continuation of the growing ridiculous number of instances resulting in the arrest of Gator football players over the last three or so years (or most of Meyer's tenure).

3) That Meyer needs to step-up and put some teeth into the seriousness of his punishment for behavior resulting in arrests (we, UF DO NOT want to become like FSU under Bowden where the only punishment seems to be running stadium steps).

4) That, in addition to a multi-game suspension being appropriate, Meyer should require the running of stadium steps in this case since Jenkins could not even outrun some donut gobbling policemen. Jenkins needs to work on his speed and endurance.

Being tasered can be a shocking experience.

i like how they said he was "arrested and tased" which makes it sound like the tasering part was sort of after the arrest and the cops were enjoying it.

also.. anyone notice the "24th arrest in 4 years" note at the bottom? i know people complain about us but i'm pretty sure where shy of that number right? i bet tennersee is 2nd.

And to think Urban was all worried about former Gators being critical of the program. Coach, you might want to get a handle on Inmate U.

Urban had no more to do with Janoris' situation than Saban did with Jimmy Johns slanging yayo. The coaches can't go out and babysit their players every night. What they can do is crack down hard on instances like this and hope that the same mistakes aren't made. I know Florida has had plenty of character issues over the past few years but you can't put the blame all on Urban. These players need to learn common decency.

I am as big a Gator fan as you can find (same with UA), but it is wrong to excuse Meyer from this trend. It is obvious he has a history of insufficient punishment, else we would not see this trend.

I guess you could try to excuse or rationalize each individual instance, but the truth of the matter is the collective total is inexcusable and is not an honorable reflection of our (yours and mine) Gator program or on Meyer himself. ElephantStomp has a very, very valid and legitimate and spot-on point. It is plainly obvious that any discipline extended by Meyer has be non-productive. He, and he alone, is responsible for creating an environment where this type behavior goes relatively unpunished.

These are just rep point crimes. Nothing serious. Listen, you may not understand the gang-like conditions present on Florida football teams. You will get Internationaled by a team like Miami.

You got to represent your neighborhood and your peeps before you go having ties to a team. That is a game, man. I am talking real life. If yo team gets runned over and you look silly, you is getting you ass beat when you get home.

See, that what you got to know. If I fumble da ball and lose the game, I is getting a beating out on the sidewalk when I get home. I gots to represent.

Aint no game when you girl caint make that car payment is it? You gots to make money and if that mean making a bet then so be it. I aint above fixing a game so my little chilluns can be getting the nice clothes and apple sauce and stuff.

I agree that there is a huge problem with incidents like these at Florida and that a lot of the blame should fall on Meyer for allowing it to happen. 24 arrests are completely unacceptable. I just think that the majority of the problem is the character issues that these star players develop before they ever get to the college game. Kids all over the country and especially in Florida have adopted "gangsta" lifestyles. Sadly many big time football programs all over the country deal with this problem, and UF is one of the worst. Meyer has kicked multiple players off of the team and it hasn't seemed to make much of a difference in how the players act off of the field. Again, I'm not excusing Coach Meyer because he is at the top of this mess, but at some point it comes down to the stupid choices these kids make when they are away from football.

We are in agreement on many points. Almost all it appears from the above latest comments.

I live in Tampa and see the 'gangsta' issues you raise at even some of the better public schools here in town. Only one of the several reasons my girls attend private schools.

Even explaining that many of the character issues with individual players come with them to Gainesville still does not excuse Meyer. Afterall, there is not a single player on the roster who did not receive a scholarship or allowed to walk-on without his explicit approval. If he is incapable of making a change in the lives of teenage men with this character flaw then maybe he should stop recruiting them in such high numbers.

I suggest our coach spent a little less time calling out Gators whose time and love and attachment to UF predated him - and will likely post-date him as well, who express some sound criticism and a little more time examining why he has made so many stupid personnel or disclipline choices himself.

I am not willing to sacrifice our soul for a few wins.

I understand that Meyer is the total blame, but who has to sign off on them getting on the team? Last I checked the head coach did. With the off the field issues that were going here for awhile Saban took the blunt of the blame.

The point I was trying to make was that Urban should worry less about Gators being critical of the team and more about how to punish the kids that mess up. Disicpline isn't Urban's strong point as has been proven.
