Florida's Spikes suspended for gouging eyes

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida coach Urban Meyer has suspended Brandon Spikes for the first half of Saturday's game against Vanderbilt after the star linebacker attempted to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey in a 41-17 victory.
Meyer says Spikes was retaliating after getting his eye poked earlier in the game.
Spikes is fourth on the team with 42 tackles and has three sacks.
He decided to return for his senior season instead of entering the NFL draft. The team's defensive captain has missed most of two games this season with an injured groin. He played only a series against Arkansas and sat out the entire game at Mississippi State on Oct. 24.

Really? Spitting vs. an enraged man driving fingers into someone's eyes? One conveys strong dislike for another - at worst. The other handicaps a human for life - at worst. How should we be seeing this?

what r u getting upset over? i dont think anybody should see it any different, in fact it may be worse. i just figured there would be some folks that thought he was at least half justified were retaliating (not necessarily how he did tho). Regardless dude is dirty and it was uncalled for no matter what he did.

i was kinda curious what caused him to do this. I can tell you this, if someone spit in my eye, I would somehow one up them - call me classless, but you can bet they won't spit in my eye again.

if the RB did something prior to the eye poke, then he kinda got what he deserved. I'm not saying 2 wrongs make a right, just saying, you spit in my face, i'm gonna get you back 2-3 times worse than what you did to me.

I spit. You Blind me ending my career. My younger brother then shoots you one night out in town. Your brother goes on a mass killing spree at the next LBS family reunion.... Where is too far, because blinding someone crosses that line for me...in the context of a football game. You have to remember, everyone has what they will play for and what they will kill for. It is best to not to start a game you are not willing to play all out in. With so many of the players' family's sole financial hope riding on that one, ending the hope for the family can be deadly.

Yes, not one was mamed for life, but Brandon Spikes did not control that outcome. He was either lucky or inept.

sure, I'm not saying it's right...I'm just telling you what I would do in the heat of the moment if the RB spit on me. anyways, I'm tired of speculation of what the RB did to deserve such an ugly moment by Brandon Spikes. nobodies career was ended due to blindness, lets not blow this outta proportion with even more speculation talk.

Whats funnier about this whole thing, Brandon was the one that said OU was dirty after the NC game just recently if any of you remember. pot kettle.
