Five SEC candidates to enjoy breakout sophomore seasons in 2016

DB Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama: The question for Fitzpatrick’s sophomore season is not whether he will fill a key role in Alabama’s secondary. The question is whether he will play nickel, corner or safety. He can do it all and do it all well. He picked off two passes last season and led the team with 11 pass breakups and 13 passes defended. Hard to imagine the words breakout and Fitzpatrick going together. Seems he did a pretty good job of that last season. I think this could be a monster year for Payne. Hoping both Scarborough and Harris have breakout years.

Payne, Harris, or Scarborough seem more likely for "breakout" status. Hell! If Fitzpatrick doesn't block a punt or only returns 1 int for 6 this fall, does that mean he is a bust? I think not!!

LOL, why is Fritzpatrick on the list...didn't he already have a "breakout" year. I'd agree with @uagrad93, Harris or Scarborough would be on my list.

Kendall Sheffield is the guy I think will make a big push in the secondary, but then again, he's not a sophomore seeing as how he RS last year.

I think it's because he wasn't a starting CB or S. If Alabama didn't start in nickel or dime, he wasn't a starter.
