[h=3]Gossip, Rumors, News and Insights from Athletic Directors’ Convention[/h]

I spent parts of six days at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics conference in Dallas. Along with the ADs, college marketing, licensing, business and development leaders were holding their conventions simultaneously. The following notes are observations made by myself during the conventions, pieces of conversations I had during the conventions, and pieces of conversations I overheard. Information I have included provided by others comes, without exception, from people whose responsibility it is to know.

Conference Expansion and Realignment

The ACC is aware that it needs to do a better job telling its story, combating the negativity that exists about it in many media circles, and being more aggressive in promoting itself. The ACC has done a very, VERY good job telling its story.

IF you happened to live in a hole, let me give you a quick recap. It's a two-part story with one central character, Virginia Tech.

"Two part story?" Yes, that's what I'm saying.

"Virginia Tech?" Yes, it's the main character. However, FSU does play a role as does Cincy.

A quick synopsis of the plot: Florida State over Virginia Tech of the Big East for the 1999 championship, Virginia Tech of the ACC over Cincinnati in the Orange Bowl after the 2009 season.

Those are the ONLY two wins the ACC has had since the BCS was instituted. That's TWO wins out of 15 games. What more about this story does the ACC need to do a better job of telling?

The Big East has a better record in BCS bowl games (7-7) than we do?

That last line of that paragraph reads, "...in the social media age where facts matter less than number of followers."

2-13. Those are the facts.
