P4, known for developing a running game. The two most prominent names I've heard fit, snugly.

The guy I've been hearing the most about Bama's interest is at Mizzou. I understand he has been in contact.

The players were told, officially as a group, tonight. Family members of a few of the lineman have shared some of them have known for awhile.
If I'm the QB and I'm calling these coaching hires...i've been staring at the offensive line in front of me. Now, I'm doing a 180.

Along with Jones I've heard Klenakis a few times. His resume catches my eye.

As far as a new OL coach. I'm clueless. I have gone and looked to see if names from the past were still coaching. Stoutland (still with the Eagles). I remember his time here, he did well with the talent that was on hand that Pendry left him, but was not the best evaluator of HS talent and it translating into the SEC. He has done well for himself. I have seen Sam Pittman's name mentioned. He seemed to do really well at UGA early on while Kirby was building them back into a powerhouse. All the names I know from an OL perspective are old guys. Pittman is 64. He gets 285k/month over the next 27 months. That dude ain't doing nothing but hunting/fishing and some cold beer drinking. Another name I can remember that is young and still is probably willing to wheel and deal in the shit-show that has become college football is Matt Luke, but he underwhelms me. He had some decent OL under Freeze, but that was because he was paying the best talent with whores and cocaine.

IDK who CKD is planning to hire, but I think it is pretty crucial that he get a good one for him to able to continue on as the UA head coach.

I haven't seen any mention or heard anything. @Brandon Van de Graaff knows more about coaching positions in the league than I do. I would take me a few minutes to name five head coaches in the NFL. And I'm not quite sure I could.

The info comes in a round about way. I can say I know the family members of a few of the offensive lineman have known a change was coming for awhile now. The folks that have shared that are in positions to know those people; so I believe him. It also makes a hell of a lot of sense given they were in the middle of 'renegotiation' season. They also said a few of the players have been told who it is. So there's that.

If this is the case, and I have no reason to believe it isn't, I'm a little surprise at how there's been a Cap on the news. It's still the same ol' same ol'. A name you'll hear has been spotted on campus and he tells who tells ... you know the routine.

It's a crazy time the year, every year. Assistant coaching hires are a slow process. Not so much about the hire being made, but about when it is announced. What do you think the chances are of assistant coaches having contracts expire on the 31st? Or, buyouts changing?

We were a "move n stay 3 family " for near 20 years. Til Tennessee and staying ended progress on career.

But these coaches sign up for it. They know the cost ... the sacrifice
 
Not That It Matters Now, but I assume Huff was Kalen's #1 choice when he was hired at Bama and then it all fell apart due to Grubb and Huff going to the NFL. Not sure which OL coaches were on Kalen's backup choices but the one he chose was a Grade C hire. Why he stuck with him for year 2 is unclear. Nick hired a former NFL HC to be his OL coach and that guy was not really good, but Nick ended that in one year. JMO but you had two poor choices by Kalen in 1st the hire and 2nd not correcting your mistake in one year.

It is hard to believe that Bama had 12 OL that were not good enough for Bama to have a better product.

JMO but both Vandy or Mizzou can match dollars to retain a coach vs Bama. We'll see.

What you're saying is the deal is already done.
 
This will probably be somewhat unpopular but I wanted to wait until the move was announced to say it. While many will cheer this, and I myself said weeks ago a change needed to be made, a change doesnā€™t guarantee things will be better. They should be better, and I think they will be betterā€¦ but the run game issues were not all on the shoulders of Kapilovic. Some of the development issues, yes.

As far as the new guy, there are a LOT of good OL coaches out there. Some young, some old, most the average fan has never heard of. I'm not too concerned about who is officially brought in and I think DeBoe has some good options. I don't think he would have made this change though unless he was also ready to make a little bit of a philosophical change on offense as a whole (in terms of the run game). The fit with Grubb (who can be prickly) is going to be important as well.

Regarding Huff, they'd love to have him back (and maybe they can get him), but he really likes pro ball and is trying to work his way up the ladder there. Sean McVay assistants tend to be hot commodities throughout the league, so if he stays there he will likely ascend the ladder quickly.

If that ends up being the offensive line coach, that will be underwhelming. Those Steelers lines were not that great during that period and the Pats offensive line was a huge issue in 2023.

Alabama and DeBoer can certainly do better than a former line coach transitioned to a senior defensive analyst at USC.
