🏈 Finebaum: 'Absolute power corrupts absolutely,' which brings us to Urban Meyer and Nick Saban

I copied this thread over here from the News forum not for the content of the article, but for one of the responses.

It's seldom I see a comment posted on one of the newspapers sites that makes sense, or more to the point actually makes a valid statement.

Here's we may have a first, but even if not a reply to PF's column that's worth noting...

Paul, Paul, Paul...talk about the pot calling the kettle black.... Over the last several years you have, for better or worse, attained the same status in the make-believe world of radio broadcasting -- at least in the Southeast -- as have Meyer and Saban in the very real world of college football. You proudly proclaim yourself and your show as being the place where college football coaches are fired. You have little or no regard for the fans of any school nor, with a few exceptions, other members of the media. You deftly play one against the other with no care whatsoever as to whether your creating problems or reporting on them. Of course, in your case, you have most times relegated yourself to reporting on or commenting about what others have said or written. At one time you were somewhat capable of investigating and coming up with your own headlines but not so much anymore.

If absolute power corrupts absolutely, then the power you wield in radioville must have you corrupted to the core. Are you? Do Lord Acton's words apply to you as well?

Hmmm.....

Maybe giving Paul a little to much credit but he ranks right up there amongst the egomaniacs, no doubt.

As always, his article was overstated to say the least. All great coaches have a "presence" about them and not all of them leave you with the warm and fuzzies if you encounter them on a personal basis. Coach Bryant was known to be brash and harsh toward the press. So what? His personal relationship with the media and media-types didn't mean a thing when it came to winning. I am not trying to pick on Mike Shula but he's the first one that came to mind when I thought about coaches that were nice and gentle. Give me a guy that breathes fire and chews on brimstone like it's a piece of gum. The only thing I care about as an Alabama fan is does he get the most out of his players, does he make good game day decisions and the bottom line....does he win? I'll leave all the touchy and feely crap that Paul seems so worried about up to the delicate flowers among us.

Yeah Saban can be an SOB but he's our SOB.

The purpose of his articles is to illict a response and garner readers and attention rather than putting together a solid piece of journalism.

I, myself, can make a story out of anything I see, whether it is relevant to the truth or not.

Therefore, the biggest statement I feel I can make towards his work is not to read, listen, or pay attention to anything that involves him. If that is done by a large enough group of people, itll all stop. Whether because he is fired or goes back to real journalism or ect.
