I know this is an old article, however Finebaum is bringing this up right before signing day. What has happened that has caused him to turn on BAMA. This article was disgusting when it was originally written, and Clay Travis is obviously a pawn for the Big Tin, or has some other agenda. He is always slamming the SEC in one form or another. Why bring it up now. Also Finebaum talked about AJ's comments this weekend.

Ha, never seen that article before. Quiet comical. Every fan base has some idiot fans like the ones pictured. I also find it funny he had Notre Dame fans in there because they are an actual great school that graduates like 100% of their players. There's nothing dumb about that. I'm proud of my education from the University of Alabama and will put it up against anyone.

Finebaum is now a national face for college football and will stir the pot to remain relevant. He knows football, but you'd be naive to think he doesn't talk a little trash about all schools in order to elicit angry and entertaining responses from all fans.

Does he? I'll be honest, I avoid him, but unless something has changed, he always did his best to avoid serious football discussions both on radio and in print. He had some good sources, and still does I'm sure, but he's out of his element when folks want to talk about what actually happens on the field of play. I have seen him some on Gameday this past season, and he brought zero to the table. Nothing. They night as well have shown a clown making balloon animals for the crowd during his segments.

The one compliment I'll give him is he is a good interviewer. Well that, and he's obviously the GOAT at stirring.

Finebaum only knows how to stir the pot. I've listened to his show, can't listen now. The whole show has just a constant obsession with Alabama fans. We have our dumb fans that call in like that girl Phyllis and Jim from Tuscaloosa, then the rest of the callers just call in to degrade Alabama fans. Finebaum has great guest, but that's about it. He's a tool and so is his show.

He can stir all he wants but he is bringing up old issues right before signing day. Most of the callers trashed Clay Travis over the article, however it was buried in his website. I sure do miss the Quinton Groves site that was more obviously comedy.

This, this, and this! Every blue moon, I'll tune in to see if he has a good guest on; if not, I'm changing back. It's the Jerry Springer show with a couple of the regulars. I've been teaching in a middle school for 16 1/2 years. Why do I want to listen to more of it in the afternoon?

The guy has to have a little knowledge on the sport, otherwise he never would have built his radio show and ESPN would not have came calling. I do feel like they brought him in to create controversy and keep people interested and mad at the same time. He made some good points on Gameday where Desmond Howard sounded like a complete idiot and Big Ten homer (which he is), but should not be showing that biased opinion. Herbstreit does a great job now of putting his Ohio State roots to bed and is a much better broadcaster for it. Finbaum knows football, but he also knows how to get a fanbase charged, like I'm sure most Alabama fans get after this ordeal.

you know, i've never understood the whole "you never even went to ______________ so why are you a fan" argument.

there are thousands upon thousands upon thousands of people who didn't go to this university or that university who are fans. and what about pro teams? did anyone every go to the university of the chicago bears? did they go to southern san francisco 49ers university? no, i didn't think so. by clay travis' logic, there should be no pro football fans because noone went to their "schools".

and i never, NEVER, hear anyone say anything like that for basketball. i've never heard anyone say anything about kentucky wildcat basketball fans or duke basketball fans or ucla basketball fans never going to those respective schools. so why is it that football is the only sport that gets that sort of attention?

i think it's because mr. travis is mad at the world. or maybe he's just mad it himself. or better yet, maybe he's just mad it his life. he is a pathetic waste of human skin and uses oxygen that would otherwise better serve other, more important people who actually contribute to society. what he brings to the human race could also be brought by any number of lesser mammals, intelligence-wise, on this planet. he is a self-centered blow-hard that loves nothing more than for someone to agree with him so he has an audience and for others to talk about him so he thinks he has a "fan-base".

yes, i never went to The University of Alabama.
yes, I'm a fan of The University of Alabama sports teams (ALL of them, not just football).
no, i don't have "listeners", or a "fan-base".
and not, i am not on call-in radio shows every week across the nation spewing my vile like mr. travis is dong week in and week out.

Clay Travis is a bigger douche than Finebaum ( IF that is possible)!! Travis loves to stir the pot with his blog/sportswriting. I think TerryP said it before about Travis and his time on FoxSports1. He is a hack at best!

I got it (lying)

We'll call this the trivia question for the day...

As a hint? Norm!!!

I've said I respect both Travis and Finebaum because they are good at what they do. I don't like how they go about it, but you can't argue about their success.

I'll tell you one thing I felt about FS1 and the hiring of Travis and Petros Papadakis. If they continued with the MO they wouldn't stand a chance against GameDay. Both continued banging on the SEC teams, fan bases, etc. And, their ratings were abysmal.

Think about this for a second. Travis, with his content centering on things that are going to inflame the Bama fan base...and which TV market continually has the highest ratings for college football on Saturday's? B-ham.

I only use this argument when someone from another school tries to belittle my education from the University of Alabama. Most of the time it's Georgia fans. Add on top of that it's Georgia fans that didn't even go to Georgia, they just like to sit on the schools good academic record as if they accomplished something. When graduation rates come into a discussion, school or college rankings, or things like that, I will use this argument, because if you didn't go to the school you shouldn't be allowed to get away with any argument belittling the education of someone that actual did go to the college they pull for.

Of course there are fans that didn't go to their school. There are an unlimited number of reasons or circumstances why someone may not have, but that shouldn't take away from their freedom to pull for a specific team and be passionate for the boys we trot out onto the field. I would feel a lot better if those people donated some money to the school, even if it's a dollar, because that would solitify your stance of being an actual fan. I paid my athletic fees, ticket fees, and all the other fees that the school uses, and I donate the little I can to the athletic department becuase they offer me so much. That's just my two cents on that argument/discussion that gets thrown out there a lot. I have seen it used a lot more by Georgia Tech people that say it because they know they're in a tougher school and kind of rarified air compared to most programs that don't have such high freshman standards.

I get that argument thrown at me all of the time, especially because I'm not even from the South. I went to a college that didn't have a football team. I grew up in an area where college football isn't a big deal. I grew up with a dad who idolized Bear Bryant and knew someone who played for a championship winning team there. Then I went down there for the first time a couple years ago and it wasn't the winning that got me to become a full-fledged fan .. it was the people. Best community around.

My dream is to someday end up down there, with a job. I love T-town, I love the people, I love the food, and I love the football. I also root for the other school sports. If there's one thing I have learned as an Alabama fan .. HATERS GONNA HATE. Nobody can take my love of the school, the people, and the sports away. And I don't care what anyone thinks of my love for it all. Because, ROLL TIDE! :tongue-new:

bama alum

Bingo!

From SNL: Who would win, Mike Ditka or God? Trick question, Mike Ditka is God!

Hence, Ditka 101 is a religious studies class...
