The Auburn Tigers suffered a setback Wednesday night when it was learned safety Jermaine Whitehead did not travel to Manhattan, Kan. for Thursday night’s game against the Wildcats.

A school spokesperson confirmed the news to AL.com on Wednesday night.

Whitehead is the most experienced member of the Auburn secondary and has recorded two interceptions, including a pick-six in the Tigers Aug. 30 opener against Arkansas.

According to AL.com’s Brandon Marcello, AuburnUndercover.com has learned through sources with knowledge of the situation that Whitehead got into a verbal altercation with an Auburn coach and was suspended as a result.

The move leaves a gaping hole at free safety where the senior has played a team-high 122 snaps. It also is concerning for defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson due to the threat of versatile K-State quarterback Jake Waters.

Freshman Stephen Roberts is listed as Whitehead’s backup, but if needed, it’s possible that cornerback Josh Holsey or Derrick Moncrief could move to safety in place of Whitehead.

Wait, just noticed this part .. Must have been SOME argument to warrant a suspension, let alone getting kicked off the team (if true). I mean, there's a heated exchange, but I have never heard of a player being suspended for an argument ..
