📡 👀 Looking to Ole Miss: Game Time Adjusted Due to Hurricane Delta

Haven't heard.

I asked because the last place you would put your team is anywhere near campus. Coach Bryant made that mistake in 1976 at Georgia housing the team at a downtown Athens hotel. My nephew, an UGA student at the time, and his frat buddies drove around the hotel all night blowing their horns, with the APD ignoring them. Had a friend who was on that team confirm it at the '93 Sugar Bowl, saying that the players finally dragged their mattresses out in the hallways in an attempt to get some sleep. All to no avail. Bama played the next day as if they were sleep walking and lost 0-21.

These places are not prepared to host team and staff. Ellis does a hell of a job but this isn't a snap your fingers thing. There are staff in route already; some likely there.

no it's not a snap ur finger thing. Its paying good money for competent people to do a good job and being prepared for everything
( like special team coaches)

thats why Nick is paid as so. And i am sure the people around him have such demands

Things are not as hard as SOME want want to make it seem

FWIW, I always thought Bama stayed in Memphis when they played at Oxford.

They do at times, fly into Memphis and stay in Olive Branch. They've also stayed in Tupelo (45 min bus ride away from Ole Miss campus and near airport) in recent years. Usually they take charter buses back to Tuscaloosa after the game. One interesting thing about the COVID stuff is a deal was made last week with A&M, and they joined Alabama and stayed at the same hotel (The Capstone where Bama always stays during home games). Heard about that a couple days ago from a friend who is a local officer and provided security. They basically turned the hotel into a bubble. Would imagine we see more of that.

Explain exactly how that's supposed to work with team travel. Are you suggesting they should have booked the hotels Friday, Saturday, and Sunday based on something they didn't know? (IE: how the storm would progress.) They are supposed to book hotels in multiple cities?

I'm sorry to butt in here, but when hundreds of thousands if not millions are at stake you think about these things. A hurricane isn't the only game changer out there right now. My 85 year old grandma heard about this storm over a week ago because of her place in Panama City. We have the resources to make almost anything work.

Not butting in....
your perspective is always appreciated....
Pro or con...
am sure most all others agree...

I get what you're thinking, I'm saying it's not realistic.

Let's just consider housing for the staff and players. IF they go two to a room, 45 rooms just for the players themselves. Add another 20-30 for staff and we're now talking about two plus floors of a hotel.

Are we to assume a hotel manager is going to block off two floors, if not more, for a teams' "contingency plans?" Are you expecting Ellis Ponder to reserve two hotels for each road trip?

The notion "let's just move it to Friday" makes no sense to me. What about the other hotel guests who already have rooms reserved?

I understand all of that. You can't bump other guests, so you call another hotel. Hotels need the business and would most likely be willing to hold two floors for that potential payday with a 24 hour heads up. Put a deposit down, I'm sure there are funds.

Does Tunica not still have casinos with large conference rooms for meetings and plenty of rooms? They used to because I have seen both, but that was ten years ago.

I don't expect two hotels per roadtrip normally, but what if three days before we play LSU the hotel staff gets the virus? This season is a time where you double up and have contingency for every possibility? We always hold Alabama in a clout that is ahead of the curve and everyone else, so I would think in this situation as well we have enough clout to make it a reality. And look at it, a situation is already showing it can happen third game into the season.

I think some fans are expecting this storm to be a category 3 when it sails over Oxford or something. It's going to be rainy (at times) and windy with maybe some 30 MPH wind gusts. There are worse summer thunderstorms around here in June.

I was thinking the same. Is football getting soft these days too? The Missouri game from years ago and even the Georgia game in Athens the last time were both hard rains and we played with full stadiums of fans. I don't get this whole deal, but I'm not a meteorologist either.

I wish I could go this weekend. I love a good rain game.

I don't recall the forecast for the day the Missouri 2012 game was played, but there was a really severe thunderstorm that rolled through and the game was suspended for a long time. It happened early on, and really affected the flow of the game..

The fact is.... if its wanted....it usually can be made to happen....

other things..... bama and ole ms both had open same date in nov....

these are athletes..... a 2 hourbus ride from ttown would not be the worse morning
In players life.... if it was uga.... maybe not but ole ms...

whatever....its done...Saturday night-in the rain...roll tide...

My oldest works at a hotel here part time while going to school.

The hotel is packed for what it's worth, probably 90% booked every day. Most of the time they sell all rooms by the evening.

College Station as an example, has a massive hotel shortage...always has.

You can't solve this last minute.
