šŸˆ Ex-Tide player Roach lands coaching job

I enjoyed watching Freddie play ball...

Slightly off topic but seeing his name made me think about Ant...all the criticism he received from fans despite his consistent play at the CB position. Yah...playing in his third SB with the Steelers. On the same note, Peprah is playing in this SB as well...along with a few other names you may—or may not—remember.

Here's a clue to one...

3rd down, Iron Bowl. DuBose was coaching and he was our OC at the time.

Anthony Madison?

I heard them call Peprah's name during the Green Bay game. I always liked him. Especially the way he mugged that UGA reciever in '02.

3rd down Iron Bowl = Bruce Arians?

Is DeShea Townsend still with the Steelers?

Yes, yes, and no.

DeShea was waived a few weeks before the regular season ended this year. Pittsburgh had traded him to Indy this past year.

I'd have to look over both rosters to see how many SEC and Bama connections are on these two teams. Quite a few I expect.

Good to hear about Freddie Roach, great Linebacker. I remember his first game, the pick return for a TD. Hopefully he comes back to Bama down the line as a Coach.

Speaking of Peprah, am I the only one that still gets pissed about Peprah moving from Corner to Safety? I always thought there was no ceiling for just how great he coulda been had he remained at Corner.

You know looking at the guys in the NFL currently from Bama really tells how far we've come. Sure Peprah and Madison were good, but I just think the teams we're putting on the field in the past 3 or so years would just run circles around the teams from the early 2000s. And that is fantastic to hear about Freddie Roach!!

I have to pull for the Steelers in this one. And, let me be perfectly clear, I'm not a fan of the NFL.

Too many Bama connections. I remember Amos yesterday but forgot about John Mitchell.

You know...his name was being thrown around a few years ago about a coaching position at UA. It was after Price, before Shula retained Kines, wasn't it?

Hmmm, this has me thinking. If I'm pulling for the Steelers and they get in a crucial third down situation should I be thinking "Oh Chit!!!???"

For the most part that's right but I think that defense from '05 could hang with just about any defense we've had including '09. I mean just look at the NFL talent on that squad: DeMeco Ryans, Mark Anderson, Charlie Peprah, Roman Harper, Anthony Madison, Wallace Gillberry, and Rashad Johnson. Not to mention Juwan Simpson, Freddie Roach, Ramzee Robinson, and Simeon Castille.

I 2nd that! If we had any kind of offense that year (after Prothro went down) we would have pushed Texas or USC out of the BCS game. Our D was unbelievable that year.

Yeah the Prothro injury really killed us. I know ppl always say "one player doesnt break you" but I think it really did. One thing Shula and his boys did well was use Prothro. I mean we were lining him up EVERYWHERE. Out wide, in the slot, at Tailback, at QB, returning kicks. Everywhere. Teams were more worried about him than anything. Then, he goes down and teams load the box to stop the run and blitz Brodie with no worry about the young guys on the outside. Yeah DJ came along that year and Brown ended up being a playmaker but Pro was a gamebreaker. Plus a REALLY young, in-experienced Offensive Line. Just look at the Freshmen (Cadwell, Stabler) and Sophomores (Capps) on that O-Line. Brodie was getting killed alot that year, even when he'd get the pass off, he was still picking himself up off the dirt because he got hit as he threw it.

Personally, I saw that season tank after we lost our C a few weeks after losing Prothro. Sure, offensive production dropped when TP was hurt...but, we really were killed starting in that LSU stretch with the back up center. I can't recall the starters name at the beginning of that season...seems one of the Britt's was the back-up.

Yeah, I'm drawing a blank. Was it one of the Britt boys. I don't remember. But our offense was grounded as soon as Pro went down. We were scoring 25 or more a game and had played So. Miss, South Carolina, Florida, and couple of others. Then we go to Ole Miss and score 10 including the game winning FG as time expired and had probably 150 yards of total offense, UT comes in and we win 6-3 on another last secong FG. Seems like there was another low scoring one I there too. D kept on winning games for us and kept us ranked 3rd Then of course we can do nothing against LSU D and Auburn beats us
