IMO the racial comments aren't true...

How can you believe anything that OSU, Meyer, their president, et. al., say? Simply put, a track record of lying gives me no reason to suspect it's not true. It's pretty well known he condoned (ignored, perhaps a better word) the same at UF.

I hope this to be true...as well as McMurphy, I'm sure.

I placed in BOLD what I wanted to really comment on. Just because the ex teammate says he never heard the comment doesn't mean it didn't happen either. Ever been to a practice with 130+ players? They are divided up amongst their position groups and even though they may be teammates, it doesn't mean that they are beside them the entire time. As a walk on, I spent time with the starters at QB for drills, but then may go to inside period or outside while they did the other. Then I went with scout team. Anything could be said between player and coach and a player might not necessarily hear it.

That's all fair. But if you read the article you'd see they were in the same position group. Smith was their position coach.

He was always known for saying s – – -, you had to have tough skin.
“It didn’t get like they were throwing punches, but we did have to break them up,” Goins said. “He curses and uses profanity, but he never took it to that level with me. He knew his boundaries.”

And furthermore, to plays devils advocate, because an emotional kid said something happened after a fight with a coach doesn't mean it did. And it makes it even less believable when asked to comment on it in current times he refuses to.

None of us were there but we all have opions. After reading that article my opinion is fairly strongly on the side that Smith is a dusch but never called him the N word. This day in age that would be extremely hard to keep under wraps, especially when people are dying to pile on.

This day in age that would be extremely hard to keep under wraps, especially when people are dying to pile on.

Here's where I pause. "In this day and age" and "what happens in the locker room, stays in the locker room" are two worlds that seldom intersect. We're less than a decade removed from a period where racial tensions were at an all time high (ok, maybe a little hyperbole there) at Florida. It was pervasive enough to where we saw it filter down through other athletic programs (see UF Softball as one example.)

If Meyer allowed that type of atmosphere at Florida why would one believe "...not a single player or staff member would have allowed this to happen." History tends to reflect on the truth of stories.

Well McMurphy heard this from somebody, so I suspect their name to eventually come forward. And he was pretty correct while being criticized when this whole mess came out at first, so I wouldn't 100% dismiss his comments. I know absolutely zero here, and I don't give one shit about anyone involved here, but I do think it would be hard to use a racial slur around a bunch of younger black guys and get away with it. Like said above, with people just willing to pile on and get "views" or "clicks", I have a hard time believing a racial slur goes undocumented. I'm honestly just here hoping the next comment is a social media post about CUM being fired.

Well, that and Urby/Ohio State's lawyers have been threatening him. His publication (Atlantic?) should have pulled him from this stuff and got someone else to handle it. Whatever sources he's using he could easily hand them off to someone else he trusts.
