ESPN had something on rumor central yesterday about the impending McCarron/Simms battle. They seem to think it will be very close, if not tipped in favor of Simms. They compared Simms to McElroy.

Their reason for the snub on AJ is he is essentially too emotional in the face of criticism. Anyone have any info on that? I'd never heard that before reading that. Everything I'd read seemed to indicate he was a good kid and the heir apparent to the offense.

I don't think I have ever heard this about AJ unless I have missed something. I don't think he was at his best with seconds ticking down in a disastrous Iron Bowl but I can't imagine that after 3 years of the system under his belt that he would be easily displaced. That being said, if Sims is making a move at #1, I just look at it as we may have a real good one on our hands and he is winning the position. Not bad to have that kind of competition among your top 2 QB's. May the best one start every game!

I remember Nick being right in AJ's face giving him what for, and I don't remember him being "emotional" about it. Odd use of words.

Of course I have my opinions, personally I prefer McCarron, simply because I love his arm (but he has an accuracy and control issue which could improve with time). I am with you Joe only time will tell. I trust Nick to make the right choice.

i dont care which one it is as long as they are the one that puts us in the best position to win. With that said....If Simms wins it would suck for AJ. To be there for 3 years learning the system and have a little game experience and loose the spot to someone with no experience and only one year in the system...thats got to shake your confidence pretty bad.

There's a key here that most, if not all, are missing.

Rumor central.

The answer will be found out through spring camp. So far, based on what I've heard, coming out of the 4th quarter program it's still AJ's job to lose. And, I don't expect him to lose the job based on some other reports I've received.

Ask your boy Trotter who folded the last time they played head to head. I would be more concerned about what was happening with my own team's qb if i were you.

When I need your opinion about where my concerns lie, I will be sure and let you know. Thanks for the worthless response. Hang your hat on a HS game--good job.

Oh, I don't take this as news at all. I have thought since January it was AJ's job to lose. I was curious as to whether this was more ESPN crap or if any of you had heard anything to substantiate. It seems to be the former.

Thanks to those that weighed in, with the exception of Capt. Insecurity

The thing I hate about all this is the fact that whoever loses the battle will likely transfer. That just plain sucks. Be great to have 2 quality QBs on the team, especially if one were to go down.

Admittedly I don't follow Bama as closely as you, but I don't see Simms transferring. I have nothing to base that on at all; I just don't think Simms transfers. I know he will only have one year of eligibility left when he is able to take over but I think his best shot at the league is to stay put. If he transfers he's throwing a year away since he's already burned a redshirt. I don't see him taking the chance at an FCS. It worked out well for Cam's career but he was certainly an exception. Stay put and battle.

I base that on the comments that AJ or Sims (cant remember which) made about the loser possibly transferring.

That again is in the rumor category.

AL.com, well, one of their papers, made a reference to that in an interview with PS's father Jeff a few months ago. His dad said they hadn't even discussed the possibility of Simms transferring.

I believe it was one of Izzy's pieces...sure you could google it if you tried.
