🏈 ESPN, citing unnamed sources, reports Eddie Jackson has torn ACL.

Isn't this the latest in a series of injuries? I thought I read that Tony Brown was injured on a hurdle, and then Foster had a collision at practice or something. And DeAndrew White has a problem too?

All three of those aren't as a result of spring camp; aggravated by spring camp, yes.

if a player gets injured, i'd much rather them get injured in spring practice than during the season. getting injured in the spring means there is more time for someone else to step in and learn the role and be the starter.

obviously i'd prefer no player get injured.....ever. but the reality of the situation is that injuries happen in sports.

but on that note, a 6- to 5-month turn around on an acl tear isn't too bad. obviously it could take longer and we don't want the player to rush anything to further aggravate the injury.

I saw a post Saturday reminding a few that Steadman Shealy tore his ACL in the spring and was back by the second game of the season—running the wishbone.

Saban confirms torn ACL, "confident" Jackson will be ready by fall.

- AL.com

Didn't see where Saban said torn ACL. Please, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. All I saw was where he described it as ligament damage. Which I would assume doesn't necessarily equate to a torn ACL. I believe TerryP touched on some of the differences earlier. Regardless, sounds as though there is positive news which is all that really matters, IMO. Here's what coach said:

"Eddie Jackson had an MRI Sunday which confirmed that he had ligament damage in his knee that required surgery," Saban said in a university statement. "We have a great medical staff here and he will have the full support of everyone in the organization as he goes through the rehab process. We are confident Eddie will make a full recovery and be ready to go this fall."

risingtide Thanks for pointing that out. I was about to go read/listen to his comment to see exactly what he said.

A huge, HUGE difference in having to take a section (like part of another muscle) out and replace a ligament with that muscle versus repairing something that's been torn.

You're welcome. And thanks for providing all the info you provide... very helpful. I didn't want to jump to conclusions after what I had seen you post and hearing others last night already declaring "torn ACL" until I heard Saban himself say it. In fact, TerryP, here's a copy of your post that really gave me the "wait and see from Saban" attitude, especially with my lack of ACL knowledge and experience. Thought this might provide a little insight to this thread:

"So far, based on what I've read, it seems this is yet another Internet rumor that's started. We'll certainly know more after the MRI today.

Out of curiosity I looked over TI this morning to see when the ACL stuff started. Saban had his press conference that kicked off around 4ish. By 6PM it was a subject of discussion and within 30 minutes it was "he'd torn his ACL." Then, in a matter of minutes, the subject turns to "how long before he can come back from an ACL tear."

All of this from Saban saying he came down funny in a non-contact drill and will have an MRI tomorrow (Sunday.)

It's left me shaking my head...once again.

Strain. Sprain. Tear. Torn. All four are different."

BTW, if you guys haven't noticed, check out Saban's statement one more time.

Yesterday word had it he was supposed to see doctors today. By the context of that statement (and Saban does choose wording carefully) he's already had the surgery.
