Watching ESPN`s College Preview last night with Brent Musburger and Andre Ware. Andre picked us to go 10-2 with us losing to VT in the opener, of course, he picked VT as the sleeper that would be playing Florida for the BCS Championship. Apparently, according to Andre, Tyrod Taylor has morphed from a QB that couldn`t hit water if he fell out of a boat to an all world, do everything phenom over the off season. :headscratch:

VT is getting the same pre-season hpye that Clemson had last year...Clemson was supposed to be the real deal.....I do however believe VT will be a far superior team than what Clemson was when we played them.

Better than Clemson on defense, I'll agree.

However, when you go to the offensive side of the ball I'd have to give Clemson the edge in the QB position: the RB's, OL and WR's are about even.

All we heard about this time last year was how Clemson's QB, whatever his name is, was going to be able to hit their #1 receiver no problem with t e play action. Thats becuase Spiller and Davis would be running all on us. And they have a superstar DE thats huge and fast and this and that.

Now its Taylor and their defense and on and on.

We'll see.

For one reason or another VT always seems to be a team that really struggles at the beginning of a season and is very good at the end, regardless their of returning talent. Hopefully, they won`t let us down this year.

The night before Herbstreit was on with Mussburger and said the barn could win their first seven. I guess they could in a totally miraculous best case scenarion, but 4-3 is a lot more likely than 7-0.

I also saw him breaking down Auburn's schedule too, and when they got towards the end where Bama was he didn't even comment. Just laughed and said "... well I got Alabama in the SEC Championship."

I personally like Finebaum's take on the Herbstreet comments. He asked "when had Kirk gone back to smoking crack?" Thing was, I was thinking the same thing as I was driving home.

The emphasis Kirk should had made was on "could." And, there is a possibility they can.

Consider:

La. Tech
Miss. St.
W. Virginia
Ball State
Tennessee
Arkansas
Kentucky.

There are question marks on a lot of those teams as to what they'll field in '09.

Depending on the Auburn fan you are talking with, you'll have one say "we'll be lucky to win six" and the one right beside him will say "we'll win eight at the least."

Not a real meatgrinder of a first seven for sure. Still, if you were betting on these games, how many of them would you be willing to wager say your first born child that the barn would win. On the other hand, if one of their OL goes down for the season in fall practice, how many would you expect them to win.

I'd expect them to be favored against LaTech, Miss State and Ball State, possibly W Va and Kentucky. Let one of their starting OLs go down and they might beat Ball State.

You've seen what I've said a few times—I think La. Tech has a good chance to give them a good run for their money. Then again, if they won by 17-20 I wouldn't make anything of it either.

La Tech gave up some points last season to some really mediocre teams. The 8 win season La Tech had was not loaded down with impressive victories - the best win was a home win over Fresno. Their worse loss was probably the home loss to Nevada. Kansas whipped them, but that is more understandable.

I agree with you...La Tech could potentially upset them. A lot is going to depend on how bad Cheezeit really is. Roof was a terrible head coach...I don't have a lot of confidence in his ability as a DC given that Duke had the worst defense in D1 while he was there.

The barn could win...they could lose...blowout or close game either way.

That game has a 6PM kick-off as does the Arkansas game. I imagine I'll keep track of both of those games—just as a filler between the UGA vs Okie State game in the afternoon and our game that night.

Andre didn't just say VT would beat us, he made the very bold claim that not only would Florida win the National Championship, but they would STILL do it if Tebow got injured and didn't play this year.

On the very same show, he said Oklahoma would go 8-4 and lose to BYU.

That's laughable, to say the least. If the spread stays at OU -20, I think BYU will cover, but they won't win that game. And beyond a doomsday scenario, I can't dream up 4 losses for the Sooners.
