Prognostication: Week 4

Alabama @ Arkansas

24 hours is up...on to Arkansas.

Perhaps no other SEC West team has given Alabama fits since 1997 like the Arkansas Razorbacks. It is like clockwork...the game that you know is going to play a pivotal role in how the season goes. When Alabama downs Arkansas, it seems that the season turns for the better (though last season was an exception). When Arkansas knocks Bama off, the season takes a turn for the worse, and the Razorpigs seem to have an uncanny ability to get "up" for the annual game with Alabama.

An analytic sort would look at the game and say that Arkansas has had a decided advantage since 1998 when Nutt took the helm. During the ten seasons spanning 1998 to 2007, Arkansas was one of the more stable teams in the SEC West. Look at what happened during Coach Houston Nutt's tenure as a coach in the SEC West:

Nice write up. Might as well make it since '95. I remember going to that game...SEC officials at their finest.

I started to go back further, but a decade was a nice round number, and it covered the Nutt era (98-07)

Trickle Down was way off on Tulane...but called WKU 42-10.

Offensive lines are like jigsaw puzzles - they take time to put together and every piece has to fit just right. It is likely that a first game will find pieces still out of place and ill fitting. Even a high caliber defense cannot win games if the offense goes three and out almost every series. If that happens, Alabama may shock the prognosticators with a decisive win.

That was pretty dead on.

I feel pretty strongly about Arkansas. I think they are worse than most people realize.

Like the squealing of a hog in barrowing, they flood Alabama message boards like clockwork the week of our game

True, it is always an interesting week.

Kudos on the word play!

I hates me some Arky fans. Man...they were tiresome when the internet was in diapers. Now that there are droves of them online, I get queezy.

For those who don't know, my mother (who is deceased) was from Northwest Arkansas. All of my family on her side are Arky fans...and several are boosters. They have an incredibly overblown sense of self importance. I remember when they came into the SEC...all of the Arkie fans thought they were going to dominate the SEC from day 1.

The term "over achiever" implies that there is something that they achieved. In the case of Arky, I don't see where it is applicable.
