And I suspect, like years before, we'll find the same answer(s) Saturday night.

The question(s)?

Are the expectations of Ole Miss fans about how their team will perform this weekend more off-base than Alabama fans and their expectations on how Ole Miss will perform this weekend?

Now, is there a chance Ole Miss can come into Bryant -Denny and leave with a win? Sure. BUT, it's about a 1 out of 10 chance.

Just under 90% of the time when a team comes out favored by 14-17 points in Vegas that team wins outright. If that spread goes a point higher that number increases to just under 95%.

I've never followed any of the betting lines. I am sure that a 90% success rate instills confidence if some folks but it has never compelled/convinced me that it has any real relevancy... especially when dealing w/ 18 - 22 year old young men.

The expectations/delusions issues pull from a mulititude of areas & it is hard to keep in the right perspective. I remember you made a statement a year or two ago along these lines:

->As long as Alabama is really in the conversation of being a national champion each year is all that I expect. Not necessarily to win it but to realistically be in the hunt & to play like it.

This has been the barometer that I have measured this team since. It is really hard to get the proper gauge of that this early in the season, especially considering the competion. If there is anything that I can gauge the team at this point is focus, or lack thereof. It has been sporatic at best & you can see that in every game at this point. I'm sure this has implications on communication, as AJ aluded. The concern is will be if this bites us in the butt so bad it costs a game.

I remember the 2008 season as 'Bama went undefeated, CNS was constantly bemoaning that fact we hadn't played a complete game yet. To play well on both sides of the ball, for the entire four quarters. This seams to be the albatros on this teams neck.

I'm not an old guy by most people's standards, but in my 27 years of existence I've come to realize that when Ole Miss fans start to build up expectations is usually around the same time that they fall flat on their face.

Here's to hoping that history holds up it's end of the bargain this weekend. Should be a good atmosphere.
