San Francisco 49ers legend Dwight Clark announced Sunday night that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurological disorder more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
"While I’m still trying to wrap my head around the challenge I will face with this disease over the coming years, the only thing I know is that I’m going to fight like hell and live every day to the fullest," Clark said in a statement.
The 60-year-old Clark is most famous for "The Catch," the winning touchdown — from Joe Montana — to beat the Dallas Cowboys in the 1981 NFC Playoffs, sending the 49ers to Super Bowl XVI, which they won for the franchise's first-ever Super Bowl Championship.
