šŸˆ Drug Tests for Athletes

What happens if an athlete is supposed to have a drug test but they are unable to provide one? There is actually a medical condition in which a person (usually male) is unable to urinate when someone else is watching. The official name is paruresis but some folks call it "shy bladder".

I'm sure this happens sometimes with the athletes. I just wondered how the situation is handled.

How it's handled is up to the medical staff: there are ways to deal with this just as regular companies—Labcorp comes to mind and they have set procedures that companies, and employees, sign off on before test—do in the everyday world.

Until the test is performed, and the athlete passes the test, they are ineligible to play or practice.

FWIW, and I don't know if this is what sparked the question, Ohio State is dealing with a kid that was allowed to practice almost three weeks without his drug test being completed. Which is just about the right amount of time for marijuana to get out of the system.

4-6 weeks for your body to get to normal levels that are allowed on the test.....6 is optimal but with athletes usually having low body fat for it to store in it could reduce the time it takes to get out of the system....plus you do not need to wait that long there are drinks and stuff you can buy to clean you for a test within 7,24,and 48 hours....

No, I hadn't heard about that. I remember hearing about an Alabama basketball player many years ago that had a hard time giving a specimin after a game, because he had sweat so much. At least, that's what I was told.

It's really tough to give a sample after a hard workout, whether it be football, basketball, running, or whatever. I know one athlete that to provide one after a tough interval workout in September. He tried for a good while but he was empty. He told the tester, "I really want to give you one. I really think the testing is good." He was good to go (no pun intended) after he eventually provided some really dark urine for testing.

FWIW, A little warm water on the hand takes all the shyness out of a bladder though.

I supposed that a recognized pattern of not being able to go could easily be handled with a regular pattern of drawing blood.

What are these screenings looking for; Perfromance enhancers or Street drugs?
