šŸˆ Dropped balls by receivers

This year we had too many dropped balls in CNS era.

I still recall how thrilled I was in 2010-2012 ... how few drops Bama had in CNS era compared to Shula years.

When you throw so few times and drop 40 % its a recipe for disaster.

The other thing Bama needs to work on is what I call "Renfrow thows"-- meaning understand what a receiver is good at and give him balls that he is specialized to catch. That would mean getting more receivers involved in game plan not just 2-3.

Until you are able to complete passes downfield on a regular basis...it's a moot point. Hurts played well this year...but, he must drastically improve his passing. Otherwise, the gameplan for opposing defenses will be the same as it was from the LSU game on out.

What does it matter how well Hurts throws the ball if the WR's are going to drop the ball ?

Of course Hurts will improve. AJ didn't start till his third season, and he still had growing pains.

Bottom line the game ends differently if the WR's bother to catch balls that hit them in the hands.

The Clemson WR's were catching jump balls left and right, and anything else thrown remotely in their direction. It was the difference in the game.

You nailed it, especially with the last statement.

Watson wasn't all too accurate Monday. He was throwing behind, low, and high more than he was on point. But his WRs made plays.

We had 4-5 drops with balls right between the numbers. All on key 3rd downs.

THAT is the difference. Sub-par WR play, coupled with underwhelming OL play finally came back to bite us in the biggest game of the year.

Exactly right. That last catch Leggett made won them the game in regulation. Went back across his body to catch a ball thrown poorly, and got his team to the 10 yard line. That was a defining play.

i got curious ... Bama never recruited him as 3 star. He was position rank #13.

Mike Williams was 4 star recruited by Rumph at Bama. His position ranking was #27

The receivers got destroyed by Washington's DBs and then had the dropsies against Clemson. Def. not a good finish to the season especially for a bunch that made spectacular, highlight reel catches routinely in 2015. One thing I will say about Kiffin is that I dont think he attempted to get OJ into the gameplan near enough. Just too talented.

IMO we lost Charlot due to Deiter. Makes me sad. I thought Charlot was going to be awesome at UA.

I understand why Saban did it but at the same time there were some talented options that never got a shot. Dieter was an atrocious blocker early in the season and dropped quite a few passes. He finally got going later on but then the drop in the title game was killer.

I guess my point is/was...The passing game this year left plenty to be desired. What percentage of pass completions were down field this year? Not screens, Not jet sweeps, etc. ...what does it matter how well the ball is thrown? I guess that is debatable, and my opinion will probably be different than most of the experts.
Should those catches have been made...absolutely...anytime a receiver can get his hands on the ball, the catch should be made.

You never know who will improve and who won't. You see it all the time in sports. Some athletes are as good as they are going to get at the HS level, others peak in college. I sure hope that improvement is made in all facets of the passing game...time will tell.

Anyone analyzed the last few games? If not I may try to watch them again this weekend with pen in hand. Know it doesn't matter and the team has this info. Just wish they would share it. But with the crappy Participation stats they publish not sure I would trust them
