I would like to see Ronnie back one more year as well. I think he has accomplished his goals at Alabama, but I also feel he could learn to cover deep a little better. He is killer in run coverage, but when the ball is deep you rarely see him. Maybe it's our defensive scheme, but that's just my view. His attitude and leadership could be HUGE for us next year, but of course it could be my own selfishness that wants that. The guy is a football player, plain and simple. The way he carries himself, takes no shit, and lays the wood, he's a guy I want on my team and for us to keep as long as possible.
Payne is gone after what he did in the Playoffs. As Alabama fans we already knew of his weight room stories and what he does for us on an every play basis, but the rest of the country finally got a taste this year. Albeit two years late to the game for what we knew, he made himself a lot of money in the last week and a half.
After the Championship game, it was a weird feeling and a changing of the guard of sorts. We pushed aside our older talent and allowed the younger talent to run with the opportunity. Not seeing Bo or Harris in there at the end felt weird to me, but I also felt energized. Bo gave us a lot to be happy about at times, and I think he needs to go pro to achieve his goal and to make some money before injuries catch up. Harris is just awesome. The guy had a hell of a first season where he never got blocking and took some big time hits. His sophomore and junior seasons were something amazing. Just his growth, speed, agility, and strength multiplied it seemed and he put us in the best position to win on MANY occasions. I would love to see him back, but he has also accomplished his goals in Tuscaloosa.
All of these guys have won two national championships in three seasons, and one play from a damn three-peat. I think you can hang your hat on that and be very fulfilled in what you accomplished. You always have a home. You clearly see that with all of the old talent on the sidelines the other night.
