🏈 Doug Nussmeier?

I did a google search on him and it looks like he has a lot of pro experience with the CFL and NFL.

Two things jump out at me. One, he worked under Pat Hill. The second is making me pause just a minute and think...and it's not doing any good. Notice his time at Michigan State? Our last director of football operations was a Spartan at that time, wasn't he?

One thing I'd dare say. There are enough threads crossed in Saban's and Nuss's career that he has to know what he's getting into.
 
OK, never mind Bran, I found the answer.

I was thinking of Mike Vollmar, the former Director of Football Operations at UA. He's the one Pannunzio replaced, right?

He was the DFO at Michigan State when Saban was there as well as when Nuss was there as QB coach. I'm sure Vollmar and Saban have talked just as I'm sure Nuss and Vollmar have spoken.

My point? Nuss knows what he's getting into in terms of time, dedication, responsibilities, his "position," etc...

Pannunzio did replace Vollmar, correct. The only thing on this angle, T. How much would a DFO really get involved with and know the ins and outs of a position coach? I don't know, just asking. I do know Saban and Pannunzio were working the entire time on something the other day on the charter. To be honest I just assumed it was recruiting. Saban was asking "who's coming in this weekend?" Again, I just assumed it was regarding recruits, but now I've got to wonder if it was guys interviewing.

At the very least Nuss would know what he's getting himself into as you've implied. Vollmar probably had one of the toughest jobs under Saban. He had a lot demanded of him (my opinion of why he left), and I doubt he'd be shy when sharing the responsibility and accountability of working under Saban.

DFO doesn't have anything to do with the X's and O's really, although you'll find most with credible coaching history.

When it comes to their day to day operations, he's aware of every bit of it. In fact, probably responsible for the oversight of putting next weeks plans together.

DFO's have their hands in everything, internal or external operations.

From a ranking of #106th to #63 with a bump in the road at #38? Yes, that is improvement.

Why pick out that one thing? Especially, considering it is our running game!
