🏈 Does Weight Plus Speed really make a difference?

I have always been told that speed kills but weight helps to wear down your opponent in the 4th quarter when the wall gets tired. I have done some googling about our weight of the offensive line and found a few articles that make me believe we do have an advantage against ND.

Our average weight of the OL is an advantage. We are as big as the Giants. Wow

Their size averages about 304 per man or 10 less pounds. We should be able to leverage our size if we keep our speed up and pound them, that 10 extra pounds will make a difference. Here is a great article about how size matters.

Merry Christmas Rolltidebama fans, I hope all of us remember the true spirit of Christmas. Roll Tide Roll Pa Rum pa pa Rum!

Interesting find, many ND fans have been concerned about their front 7 depth and how it will fair against the best offensive line in football. For our sake, we better hope Alabama's offense is on the field more than ND's and is scoring every chance they get in the red zone. ND's defense will be even more physical than LSU's, AJ will have to be on top of his game. I think we're more fundamentally sound than them in the trenches, but they might have an advantage on the edges...

This game cannot get here quick enough though, I'm tired of breaking down ND and comparing the two! :icon_bounce:

Why do you say that?

Are you saying more physical in the light of LSU fielding more speed with their physical nature? Notre Dame having to rely on being physical because they don't have the same speed?

Personally, I don't believe there is a better defense in college football than what LSU fielded this year.

You are right. Even though we lost to AM we were closer to loosing the game to LSU than our loss to A&M. We were just beat up and tired from the LSU game. I am very interested to see LSU's bowl game. That will tell a lot.

Merry Roll Tide Christmas

Scheme, LBer play, not as much depth as LSU but very good defensive line play

Just my opinion. I think they're better against the run, better safety play, LBer's are bigger and faster.

OK, just curious.

I am a big shocked though with your thoughts earlier, and here as well.

When it comes to the safety position Zeke Motta will play on Sunday's. He's as good as they come at that position. I think the other starter is Farley, Fairly, something like that.

I'd put Motta in the same group as Eric Reid and in the same group as Craig Loston. But LSU is starting both of those guys and just one Motta.

If there's one player grouping that's hard to make head to head comparisons with it's the linebacking position when you are comparing a 34 versus a 43 defense. Bigger comes with the four linebacker set. Faster? Hmmm. We don't see eye to eye there as well.
