šŸˆ Does an 8 team playoff make sense?

Given the Big Ten mess this year, there's been a lot of debate and discussion about the CFB playoffs.

What do you guys think of an 8 team playoff?

Here's how it would likely go down:

SEC champ
B1G champ
B12 champ
PAC 12 champ
ACC champ
Best of group of 5
2 at-large spots

This would have left us with the following for 2016:

Bama
PSU
Oklahoma
Washington
Clemson
Western Michigan
Ohio State
Michigan

Seems more fair and would be a moneymaker, but would be more stress on the teams/players.

OK. I have thought about this A LOT!

1) 6 Conferences of 18 teams. All teams must be in a conference. Yes, that means 20 teams gotta go but some just don't belong at this level. It also means Notre Dame has got to join up with the program or move down.
2) Each conference has 2 divisions of 9 teams.
3) Regular Season is 8 division games and 3 other games (regular season shortened to a max of 11 games).
4) Only Division games count toward your division rankings. Tiebreakers can be determined at some point to fit this.
5) Games against members of the other division are considered non-conference games as far as standings. So Bama can keep playing Tennessee if they want to and it does not impact our SEC West standing at all.
6) There will be no games at all against teams not in the 6 Conferences. Period.
7) Division Champions go to the Conference Championship Game.
8) Conference Champions automatically go into the Playoffs.
9) Two "Wild Card" teams will be selected to join them in the playoffs.
10) Maximum games any team would play would be 15 just like now.

I'm sure financially a 8-team playoff would make a lot of money. But, it is still college athletics and who runs the colleges, college presidents or the athletic directors? Is the purpose of a college to get athletes ready for the NFL or to prepare students to succeed in business? With an 8-team playoff, those in the playoff wouldn't get any time off. The final already goes into the academic calendar of the Spring semester. IMO, if the playoffs are expanded into an 8-team format, the bowl system is destroyed and the athletes involved will suffer.

I don't support increasing the number of teams in the playoffs. It lessens the drama and importance of the regular season. Plus, when will it end? Basketball is now up to 68 teams. Plus, I don't think the best team finishes #1 in that format. Of course the tournament itself is exciting. Just my opinion.

No its too much. 4-team is perfect. Going to an 8-team playoff isnt going to stop the whining. #9 and 10 will whine just as much as #5 and 6 do now. The way it is now the regular season still matters, every game matters, it will greatly be devalued by an 8-team extension.

Too many games for the players. Remember, they do go to class whereas the NFL teams don't.
You go to 8, then 9 and 10 start bitching. Keep it at 4 and suck it up and win your games.

That's my thought as well. Way too much stress for the students-athletes. It's hard enough ..

I think the FCS does 8 game playoffs? Maybe more? Still seems like a lot.

Regular season obviously doesn't matter a lot now with conference champions left out in favor of teams they beat.

Its the exact opposite, Penn State lost two games in a row this season. Including a damn near 40 point blow out to Michigan. If Conference Titles were all that mattered (or one of the most important) then that wouldnt matter. It very much mattered in this case. It seems yall care more about who wins the conference title than picking the four best teams. Which I thought was the point.

Go back to the BCS. Then let the tears and gnashing of teeth begin. I'm already sick of the whining. Some people will never be happy. They are the ones that receive participation trophies. You know, the ones that complain because they didn't have the chance to play for the Championship. Hey! You had all season long to get the chance to play for all of the marbles. You either do, or do not.

Roll Tide!

How can a "best" team not win their division much less their conference? Anybody can beat anybody on any given day. Penn State won 9 in a row to finish their season which included a win over that "better" team. I'm not saying tOSU isn't a good team, but if they're not good enough to win their division...

Seriously, so you think Penn State is a better team than OSU? OSU would beat them 9 times outta 10. That's why they play the game tho, and they lost on that night. Doesn't change the fact that they got DESTROYED by Michigan and lost another game.

I wonder if you felt this way about "the best didnt even win their division" in 2011... lets be consistent people...
