🏈 Do we think having a power conference collapse just 3 years after NIL started is a coincidence?

Media rights ending, failure to negotiate a new media rights contract, and other conferences having strong media contracts contributed to this mess. NIL is making an impact because they eliminated the 1 year no play rule for transfers. Now teams can recruit good players to play immediately with no consequences.

The SEC was smart to get their new media contract signed a few years in advance of the ending.

Yeah, everything is all well and good while ESPN/CBS/whoever pays huge contract deals to NCAA Conferences AND the NFL. Meanwhile, ESPN is laying off their top talent because they are losing ad revenue and much of that is attributed to its movement to be PC. You can't keep paying out giant contracts if they can't sell ads, and by and large college football fans would rather not have politics in their face from a network trying to please everyone at the same time - they just want to watch football. And guess what else? LA doesn't care about football unless USC or the Rams are playing for the championship and when they're not, they don't care. This whole thing is a house of cards and It will collapse in on itself. ESPN is going to have to break contracts down the road, because they won't be able to make the ad revenue to hold them up.

Ads for College football and really any sports in general should sell pretty easily. It's one of the few viewed programs that most people want to watch live as it a happens, hence commercials are not skipped, but maybe that's just me.

Espn is laying off talent because they've overpaid for rights and for said talent... poor management on their side.

I’m old school and like Herbstreit I’m a traditionalist. And he and I agree on something else which doesn’t happen very often. It’s a sad day for college football. I too loved everything about what college football had been up until the past few years. In a few more years, college football will be “college” football in name only. It will be NFL lite in reality. Money and knee jerk reactions to other issues sealed the fate of what was once the greatest sport in America. And if that’s not sad I don’t know what is!

And now Oregon State, Washington State, Stanford, and Cal are all scrambling to find homes. The B1G doesn't want them. The Mountain West doesn't seem interested, and that's REALLY saying something. The Big 12, 15, 24, isn't exactly extending the olive branch. The ACC might take them, but that would be weird. The Atlantic Coast Conference.....on the Pacific coast

Acc already voted against some of them joining. I think they might find a spot in the Big 12 in an attempt for the Big 12 to stay relevant in lieu of the departure of their big boys (Texas and OU) but honestly not sure they're going to find a home. I think the SEC is enjoying standing pat right now but I wouldn't be surprised if they're not trying to find a new dancing partner or two.

I think the Big 12 has cemented their future, at least for the next several years, to get the conference champions pass into the playoff. Why add any more?
